The Band
The Beach Boys Tribute are five of Melbourne's hottest musos who've come together to perform the fantastic music of the Beach Boys. Their common link, apart from the fine songs and arrangements of the Beach Boys is Gavin Gray, Melbourne drummer/multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire with all Beachy Boys having performed with Gavin at one time or another.
All members play and sing with each with lead vocal duties shared amongst the quintet.
Gavin Gray - vocals/keyboards/percussion Musical Director, Gavin enjoys the opportunity to sing many of Brian Wilson's lead vocals ably backed by the rest of the Beach Boys Tribute. Gavin brings a wealth of experience to the Beach Boys Tribute and is usually known for his drumming, having played with the Oxo Cubans, The Scared Weird Little Guys, Tyrnaround and with Dave in the Quarrelmen.
Richard "Chas" Lewis - vocals/guitar/bass Chas provides another strong vocal contribution to the Beach Boys Tribute in particular covering many of the bass vocal parts with aplomb. Chas' strong rhythm guitar playing completes the classic "two guitar" Beach Boys sound. Chas has previously played with many acts including "Occasional Furniture" and "Three Piece" as well as having performed Tom Waits tribute shows on several occasions.
Dan Harvey - vocals/drums Dan's versatile singing and drumming provides the backbone of the Beach Boys Tribute sound. Dan is well known for his jazz vocals and R&B drumming. Imported from the Adelaide music scene after studies at elder Con. where he was a member of "The Adelaide Connection" Jazz Vocal Group. Dan has continued his musical endeavours in Melbourne with outfits such as Bootiejuice, Bob Johnston's "Hideaway" and pop cover band "Dance.com".
Rob Smith - vocals/bass Rob covers many of the difficult "middle" vocal parts including taking lead on some of the best, while keeping the band's bottom end sound nice and tight. Rob has also previously worked on soundtracks for the BBC TV mini series "Stark" and the Singaporean film "Tequila". He has played in a variety of jazz and R&B ensembles including "Squeeze". He currently performs with Latin American group "Beatroot".
Dave Atkins - vocals/guitar Dave has played in many bands including "Funhouse" and "Trouser Party". Most notably, he has performed with Gavin in the Quarrelmen, a band specialising in music from the latter part of the Beatles' career. Dave brings to the band a fondness for the Chuck Berry style guitar licks contained in many of the Beach Boys classics. Dave's also continued to enjoy and improve his vocal ability offering a strong voice to fill out the Beach Boys Tribute sound.
