His vocals have been featured in rhythm and blues and soul bands in the Melbourne scene for the last 20 years. Bruce's influences have been Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Anita O'Day, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan,Tom Waits.
His wide influences meld to form his unique blend of jazz, soul and blues.
Bruce has performed in a variety of bands from jazz to rock: Built for Comfort, Fat Chance, Jump 'n' Jive, Soul Sharks, The Usual Suspects. He has played at many jazz festivals including Stonnington, Inverloch, Merimbula and Bendigo Food and Wine Festival.
His Roland accordion allows him to play bass and accompaniment with his left hand and chords/solos with his right, producing an unusually full sound.
He has played in jazzy groups and covers bands, with folkies and Scottish fiddlers and intimidated patrons with a roving solo accordion in all manner of defenceless public places.
Helmut has written customised words for many special occasions and revels in the mirth created therein.
Le Toot Ensemble also utilise the sounds and percussion capabilities of a laptop and are a complete two piece band.
