Public Bar: Pool Comp.
Bandroom: Jager Uprising w Set Fire, Menace + Starvation Army. 8pm free.
SET FIRE is a creative three-piece hard rock group who are sick of electro beatniks and tired of retro rock and roll! SET FIRE combines heavy grooves, tense vocals, and melodic soundscapes with big drums.
Kent and Ben met in high school and enjoyed listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers and got hooked on Jane’s Addiction. Sam, a few years above the boys took up drums and created a storm. Over the years they have performed in various groups together, damaging their hearing with a Three Musketeers vibe.
Formation of SET FIRE was mid-2004 and with hefty rehearsals plus mind over matter performance enhancing techniques the band has realized a large chunk of it’s potential. Collectively influenced by a diverse range of groups such as: Tool, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and Jane’s Addiction - SET FIRE is willing to perform during the vicious storm. In short, you can’t go wrong! www.setfire.com.au
With an average age of only 15, MENACE play way beyond their years and not only have pro equipment but play and sound like seasoned professionals. Formed in Sept 2003, they mastered a repertoire consisting of hits by their favourite bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Muse, The Darkness, Rage Against The Machine, Aerosmith and Guns’n’Roses to name but a few. All the while writing their own originals.
With a determination and drive to become popular recording artists, they entered the recording studio in Sep ’04 with Ricki Rae (Christine Anu) & Jason Singh (Taxiride) for their 1st demo…..and what a result!!
Having cut their teeth at Bondy’s Barn, they have since performed at Federation Square during the World Rugby Finals, The Depot on several occasions, The Venue, Rush Bar, Club Evolution and were filmed live and interviewed by Asylum TV/C31 which was also shown on cable in New York. The video of their 1st demo was also screened on Asylum TV in Feb ’05.
In Sep ’04 they came 2nd of 18 bands (naturally all much older) playing originals in the FreeZa (Muso Network) band comp final at The Venue and now look forward to more recording with their prize. They were also guest programmers in a fun packed 2hr radio broadcast on 3SER 97.7FM in Sep ’04.. A 30min TV special which includes 4 original live songs and interviews has been edited and currently with CH31 TV for screening shortly which will enhance the bands live credibility.
MENACE will be recording at Rangemaster Studio’s with David Carr (Taxiride, Antiseptic, Kisschasy) producing and John Bosua (ex-AC/DC FOH engineer) engineering in April ’05 with an EP release to follow. With a rockin’ sound and songs in the tradition of their fave rock bands, the result is sure to be exceptional. www.menaceband.com
William Booth, founder of THE STARVATION ARMY once asked “Why should the devil have all the best tunes?”
With a successful & sold out charity gig last month in Bendigo for the Tsunami appeal ($590.00 raised), as well as a stint at The Town Hall, THE STARVATION ARMY (three ex-Sugafiend members, one Catwalk Syndrome and one Blindfold member) are itching to get back on stage where they will give you your marching orders to rock out, dance, thrust, groove, jump, twist to their huge guitar solos, a rhythm section that drives songs like a VRX, vocals that rival car alarms & a night at the opera, thanks to the influences of stoner rock, 80’s hair bands, metal thrashings, grunge plus jazz and on top of this they are giving away their EP to everyone who wants them.
This band will not be forced into one genre so forget the usual servings of soup and sandwiches, get out of your comfort zone and salute THE STARVATION ARMY for creating a new force on music. http://www.starvationarmy.com/

Public Bar: Los Dominados (last show before heading o/s). 9.30pm free.
Ever felt trodden on, beaten down, ignored, sucked in and spat out? Come and vent with LOS DOMINADOS. Los Dominados (The Dominated) are a Melbourne based band featuring: Michael Alonso, Helen Cattanach and Harold Fischer.
With influences from old school, garage rock and a touch of 60’s girl-group pop, Los Dominados deliver a fresh and exciting slant. It’s left of centre, so dirty and low, there’s no need for bass guitar in this line up. Come on a blistering, sonic journey through dark edged dirges, tongue in cheek fun, optimism and beauty. Raw, honest and direct.
Los Dominados have a debut album out now, ‘Basura Blanca Y Oro Negro’ (White Trash and Black Gold) and is available through Australian Records and good record stores. They’re off o/s for a while - so come check ‘em out now while you can.
Bandroom: Impossible Cinema, Mondo Cane + Quiet The Few $6 8.30pm.
Melbourne band Impossible Cinema are a five-piece, consisting of Gus M. (bass), Cadet W. (rhythm guitar, keyboards), Josh M. (lead guitar, vocals, sounds), Chris M. (drums), and Scott H.(vocals, guitar). Unlike most Melbourne bands who strive to maintain the constant unchanging thrum that is known as Melbourne rock, TIC are all about bringing the audience something that they’ve never heard before, whilst keeping listeners enveloped in a fuzz of intrigue. Verging on the edge of progressive rock yet maintaining a satisfying array of strong melodies and phat guitar riffs the band believes themselves to be the forefront of modern rock.
The list of influences is long and distinguished (like Hollywoods johnson), including bands such as The Mars Volta, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Gomez, Pink Floyd, and the ever enigmatic Nick Drake. But trying to draw a conclusion as to who or what TIC actually sound like is as pointless and foolhardy as trying to play Rachmaninov’s piano concerto no.3 on a block of pine with an empty box of matches, twelve hungry commissars and one authentic tuning peg.
We are Mondo Cane. We are a band from the western suburbs. We do not play metal. This makes us smile. Sometimes we are hard. Sometimes we are gentle. Do you like The Pixies? We don’t sound like them, but we have the same avant garde approach to our music. We follow ideas. They take us wherever they take us. Perhaps you have heard of Silver Ray. We sound somewhere between them and the pixies. We have been playing together since 2002.
Steve plays guitar and sings. Matt plays keys and sings. Matt V plays drums and sings a bit. Aidan plays bass and bobs up and down a bit. www.mondocane.tk
