Filed under: Tours, General — site admin @ 8:39 am

The Drones latest album “Wait Long By The River & The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By” (In-Fidelity/Shock) continues to impress critics and music lovers alike. With the band about to head off to tour Europe indefinitely, they’ve put together a national “farewell” tour that’ll take in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Fremantle, and Adelaide in Aug/Sep. As worldwide recognition continues to grow, The Drones are about to sign with a UK record label that’ll not only ensure their album is available throughout Europe, but also provide them with a stack of media coverage, and an endless number of gigs. However, before they relocate to Berlin or London (or wherever?), The Drones plan to keep their growing legion of local admirers happy, with a barrage of rip-snorting live performances across the country that’ll be sure to prove them worthy of the media’s recent hyperbolic praise.

In Melbourne catch The Drones “farewell” gig at The Corner Hotel on Friday 26 August with special guests: The Devastations, SALMON (featuring Kim Salmon), Dynamo, and Tiger By The Tail (new band for Dave Thomas of Bored! fame). Tickets $16 + b/f (available now from The Corner Box Office - Ph: 9427 9198) or $20 at the door. Doors open 7.30pm - first band on at 8.00pm.

Dead Frenchmen release debut EP

Filed under: pop music, CD Launches, General — site admin @ 8:31 pm

Melbourne’s Dead Frenchmen release debut EP ‘When Ghosts Take Over’

Melbourne’s Dead Frenchmen share a love of music from underground to pop, Joy Division to The Lemonheads, Swervedriver to Interpol, Archers of Loaf to The Shins Ladies.

Garnering supports for some of Australia’s best up and coming acts, including The Morning After Girls, Midnight Juggernauts, Treetops and The Red Sun Band proved they had something going on, but something you can’t quite put your finger on…

In April 2005, Lindsay Gravina took Dead Frenchmen’s jangly pop anthems and edgy new wave tinged beats with Pledgers “Curtis meets Morrisey” vocal styles floating above into legendary Birdland Studios and the result is a stellar EP with the standout element being the most important and too often lacking: great songs.

‘When Ghosts Take Over’ was released on Monday 25th July through Timberyard Recordings/Shock and to celebrate the release they are launching it nationally in August:

Melbourne Launch Party
Friday 12th August - The Ding Dong Lounge
With very special guests: Children Collide, Dragon Lord (Midnight Juggernauts side project) and Jemima Jemima.

Sydney Launch Party
Saturday 20th August - Club 77
With very special guest Damn Arms

Adelaide Launch Party
Saturday 6th August - The Exeter
With very special guest Little Star

More dates to be confirmed…
