Filed under: CD Launches, Gigs, General — site admin @ 9:06 am

COURAGE RIOT: OFFICIAL RELEASE

After touring the USA and Canada, part Melbourne/part Detroit based electro rockers Konqistador return for the official release of their debut album Courage Riot.

The album will be launched on Thursday 22 December at Rollover @ The Palace
with special guests Cold Harbour and The Sparrows.

“A staggering and stupendously good debut” - Faster Louder.com.au

“Konqistador have hit the 3 D’s with their debut album, Courage Riot: dirty, dark and distorted and it absoloutely rocks.” - Beat Magazine, Album of The Week

Courage Riot is available now thru Warthog Records/Shock
or download at mazar.com.au.

ABOUT THE BAND
The band consists of 2 Melbourne based musician/producers; Reggie Ray and Lizzy Ray (72 Blues) plus Detroit based producer and co-writer D.A. Chow. Konqistador have been promoting Courage Riot exclusively to American and Canadian audiences with their first Australian tour “You’ll Get Yours” this December.

The band delivers a seamless set of medieval and ancient rhythms, gutteral electro bass vibes, fiery fuelled guitars and throat slitting vocals.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
Konqistador have spent the last 2 years writing and recording Courage Riot, gaining inspiration and influences from all corners of the world. The band has temporarily stationed in Istanbul, Detroit and Melbourne. The album was completed across 2 hemispheres, 3 continents and a handful of time zones.

The album is delivered in 5 languages (English, Spanish, German, French and Turkish) and dances darkly through romantic themes of respect, dignity, vendettas and revenge. You can hear Ezan prayers delivered through archaic megaphone technology, poets and street preachers, all recorded in Istanbul.

Wed 30 November
Bandroom: Jager Uprising w Sinatra’s Eyes, Turbines To Speed + King City Seven. 8pm, free.
After forming in March 2005 Sinatra’s Eyes we’re quick to get the ball rolling recording a 6 track demo the very next month. Sinatra’s Eyes took to the streets passing out demos to anyone who was interested in listening. After handing the demo to a number of venues the gigs started to come in, and once the crowds and bookers took one look at their electrifying live show, the gigs were coming thick and fast.

In the short 6 months since forming, Sinatra’s Eyes have developed a strong fan base of both overage and underage punters. With the passion these boys hold towards their music and towards entertaining a crowd they are destined to go places… fast. Sinatra’s Eyes is a name to watch out for in the very, near future. www.myspace.com/sinatraseyes www.purevolume.com/sinatraseyes

Turbines to Speed formed 2004 in Melbourne. Simon the drummer and Ben the guitarist started jamming together before the addition of Kyle on bass completed the hard rocking 3 piece. Their style of music is the timeless early 90s sound of the Seattle grunge movement and they have been compared to Nirvana cross Ratcat. www.myspace.com/turbinestospeed

Seven piece outfit The King City Seven have taken rock combined with fast-paced pop-punk, fused it with a diabolical horn section and have created a unique sound that is exciting, energetic and explosive - defining of their on (and off) stage antics. The band have been playing together for over 3 years and, over the last 18 months, have constructed their bridge into the music scene and matured into a band that not only entertains, but enthralls.

The last year has been hard work for the band; with non-stop live shows, song writing and the recording of their new EP, The King City Seven are continually stretching their limits and creating a fresh new sound and with the release of their new EP ‘Breathing down your neck’, are sure to blow you away. www.kingcityseven.com

Thur 1 December
Bandroom: GREYHOUND COMEDY w Dave O’Neil + Bev Killick and more. 8pm - $12/8.
More guffaws galore with Nova funny man Dave O’Neil and Bev Killick, comedy’s queen of all things risque headlining the night.

Fri 2 December ROCKING GIG OF THE WEEK #1
Bandroom: The Detonators & Intoxica 8.30pm $10
Those Melbourne alternative legends Intoxica play so rarely these days you’d be a fool to pass this one up. Experience their unique blend of psychobilly, surf apocalypse, and relentless rock’n’roll presented in blistering live performance and you’ll understand how they came to influence and inspire so many of today’s “new rock” acts.

When Arthur left The Corpse Grinders in late 1986 George from The Olympic Sideburns joined up and the name was changed to Intoxica. That wasn’t the only change - The Corpse Grinders were a gloriously madcap psychobilly riot but Intoxica was free to add echoes of primal garage in The Sonics, the surf sounds of The Ventures, Eddie Bertrand and Dick Dale, the twang of the Buckaroos and the rave of Hasil Adkins. Since then the lineup has stayed true - Tony Shaw - singer, Phil Grinder - drums, ‘Teebs’ Pennington - bass, Nicky Del Rey - guitar, George - guitar.

Intoxica started gigging in 1987 and haven’t stopped. They’ve released three albums and five singles and featured on numereous compilations. They’ve opened for Deborah Harry, Dick Dale and The Stray Cats. They rock.

Since forming in mid 1997, Melbourne based original roots rockers The Detonators have released four albums. They have enhanced their live performance reputation by aggressive touring. Playing the Australian East Coast from far North Queensland to Hobart, across to South Australia, all the way to Perth and up through the red centre to Darwin. Fans from all the above cities will testify to this quartet’s original blend of door slammin’, top fuellin’ rubber burning jump rock blues.

The multi award winning Detonators have quickly earned a deserved reputation, as one of Australia’s most exciting, hard working, live kick-arse rockin’ roots bands. They are known locally as the high priests of roots rock ‘n’ roll. They can be heard on radio stations all around the country including the ABC and their videos have been shown many times on the ABC’S. Rage.

Comprising: - Rockbottom James Moloney (vocals, harmonica), Paulie “The Kid” Bignell (guitar), Eddie Fury (sticks & skins) and Doghouse Dave Philpots (bull fiddle bass).

Sat 3 December ROCKING GIG OF THE WEEK #2
Public Bar: The Vagrants CD Release BBQ Party with guests Ben Mitchell + Pedro. Free from 3pm.
The Violent Mood Swings, free 9pm.
Bandroom: The Drag Show. $8, 8pm.

The Vagrants features Steve Iorio, Renate Iorio, James Spitfire and Brett Spicer. They’re launching their debut self-titled EP with special guests Ben Mitchell and Pedro on Saturday afternoon, with a BBQ lunch also available. $10 buys you a snag, a beer and a copy of the EP - Bargain! or just come and watch for free…

The Vagrants’ sound is a blend of 70’s rock with a bit of a roots feel. They’ve been compared to Ben Harper, Black Crows, Baby Animals, Stray Cats, The Stones and Jack Johnson, which says a lot about how hard it is to categorise them. Whatever the classification, radio likes it with the band getting good airplay on RRR, PBS and SYN FM. www.vagrantmusic.com www.sonicbids.comvagrants

Ben Mitchell is a local singer/songwriter also getting radio play on 3PBS, 3RRR and Southern FM. After many years in the UK, Ben returned to Australia in 2004 and has since been building his audience of new fans and getting the attention of the local music industry. ‘The Stars Can See’ his latest offering is available at The Last Record Store, Smith Street, Collectors Corner, Swanston Walk and over the net at Longhaul Records. www.benmitchell.com
