RADIO BIRDMAN - 30 YEARS OF MOTOR CITY MADNESS

Way back in 1976, RADIO BIRDMAN - the most internationally recognised Australian band of the formative and influential underground era of 1976-1990 - released their debut ep Burn My Eye pre-dating releases from The Damned, Sex Pistols and The Clash and landing comfortably amongst other like-minded releases from Patti Smith, The Ramones, Pere Ubu, Television and The Saints. In time Burn My Eye would prove to be one of the most influential and collectable releases of the entire punk rock and new wave era.

Following that landmark release RADIO BIRDMAN recorded three incendiary albums Radios Appear, Radios Appear (overseas version) and Living Eyes before before breaking up mid-1978. Reforming in 1996 - at the invite of the Big Day Out - RADIO BIRDMAN showed that age had not diminished the rage, discontent (and fun) that had characterized the band since those early days. Since that initial reunion RADIO BIRDMAN have re-appeared at regular intervals, in 1997, 2002 and on a semi-regular basis since December 2003. And now, this summer, some 30 years after they first entered the recording studio RADIO BIRDMAN will begin recording for the follow up to their third album Living Eyes. The sessions are booked, the songs are complete and the band is primed for what will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated releases of 2006. Detroit born guitarist Deniz Tek - the chief songwriter for all three of the band’s timeless albums - is again at the helm but this time there are to be contributions from all remaining original Birdman members; singer Rob Younger, keyboardist Pip Hoyle and guitarist Chris ‘Klondike’ Masuak. And, as if to supplement all this new found focus and energy RADIO BIRDMAN have commissioned a swag of shows to take place in February 2006. Included in the itinerary will be a spot at the Perth Festival Becks Verandah Bar, the bands first visit to Adelaide since 2002, their first visit to the Gold Coast since the 1996 Big Day Out and first ever appearance in Coffs Harbour and the Victorian suburb of Belgrave.

Tickets on sale now and as per all other Radio Birdman shows, are expected to sell out quickly. Don’t miss the explosive energy of RADIO BIRDMAN, live!

With a sound that’s inspired by songwriting greats such as Cave, Dylan, Reed, Cash and Young and groups like Wilco, Love, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Velvets and Teenage Fan Club (to name but a few!) the band have created a unique and diverse style that is unlike any of their wide-ranging influences.

With an increasingly strong repertoire of original songs The Last Five Minutes have shared their music at Melbourne live music stages such as The Espy, Revolver, The Greyhound, the Rob Roy and Pony. In February 2005 the band were selected to showcase at Australian Music Week

Autumn 2005 saw the band enter the studio with Murray Ono of the Sand Pebbles in a producer/engineer role to record the ‘Songs From The Moonlab’. The 4 track EP sees the band develop their sound further with both lush arrangements and stripped back sounds.

The idea of a soul revue conjures up a tight-as-spandex non-stop polished dance show. See them at their home away from home, the Greyhound Hotel Public Bar.
