What do you get if you play a country song backwards? You get your wife back, your house back, your truck back, your dog back…
Isn¹t that a fitting observation in relation to the economic meltdown we find ourselves in? No, it¹s not actually. But we are all looking for some magic words that will explain the whole shebang so we can tuck our children up in bed with a feeling of security.
How about this: the answer is to work smarter not harder. That is nearly as stupid as playing a country song backwards.
The situation is an opportunity, not a problem. There¹s a dopey one. Here is the news, folks, it¹s a problem. You can¹t even call it a challenge, though we know you¹d love to.
Oh my goodness, have I nothing positive to say?

While gliding down Smith Street on his trusty push bike last Saturday with the wind in his hair and the world at his feet, the Bedroom Philosopher was promptly grounded by a car door on the 86 tram route. The entanglement resulted in a broken humerus, a truth so ironic it’s actually cruel. So, despite sell-out shows, buzzing chatter on the streets and rave reviews, The Bedroom Philosopher has regretfully cancelled all remaining performances of his Melbourne International Comedy Festival show Songs From The 86 Tram.
You can still hear The Bedroom Philosopher’s dulcet tones on Triple R’s Lime Champions every Monday from 7pm til 8pm. He will also be joining the comedy conga line to take part in the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow throughout regional Australia this May and June, and will be embarking on a national album tour for Brown & Orange later this year.

If you happen to be a touch early to a show at Comedy @ Trades this week, don’t forget to check out The Biscuit Readings (part of our Free @ Trades program)!
Born to brew, Mr and Mrs Bert and Betty Bircher will be wandering around Trades Hall from 7.30pm Wednesday-Fridays with their all terrain tea trolley. They’ll sit you down and help you find out the truth; are you more Tim Tam than Barbecue Shape? Perhaps you’re more of an Iced Vo Vo? Let Bert and Betty whip you up a nice cuppa and sort your inner biscuit out.

The Castlemaine State Festival has ended for another year, but not before celebrating their closing day in style with over 3,000 people gathering in the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens to share music, laughter, food and wine.
Reflecting on the 10 days of the festival, Martin Paten, Festival Director said, “ I wanted to provide the broadest audience with the widest spectrum of artistic and cultural experiences. For this festival it was important to give audiences choice and a local voice, and the balance ended up being right given the huge response to the events. This inclusive approach confirmed that this festival is highly valued and it is inspiring to think about its future. Our major sponsors: Don KRCastlemaine, Arts Victoria, Mount Alexander Shire Council, V/Line and Tourism Victoria, were very much part of this result – a Festival that has been confirmed as a success on many levels.”

Friday, April 24th @ The Gerswhin Room, St Kilda
with The Holy Sea & Wellyn
It’s been a long time coming… almost three years to be precise, but Melbourne’s Blackchords are finally ready to launch their much-anticipated self titled debut album at the Gerswhin Room, Friday April 24th. And it is certainly worth the wait!
‘This album is nothing short of epic. The overall sound of this record is only what I can describe as a cross between the diverse and atmospheric nature of Interpol combined with the progressive soundscapes of Radiohead. Blackchords are going to be huge and are going to be huge soon”. Nick Kays, The Dwarf, March 17th
