Andy Cowan new CD

Filed under: blues music, CD Launches — site admin @ 2:54 pm

NEW RELEASE…..ANDY COWAN ‘WHEN THE NIGHT COMES IN’ (ABC Universal)

Andy Cowan is one of Australia’s foremost performing songwriters. He possesses a voice that invites comparison with the likes of Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen, with the soul of Ray Charles. But these are superficial comparisons, Andy’s virtuoso Piano and Keyboard playing contains both energy and melodic beauty. His songwriting skills give ‘WHEN THE NIGHT COMES IN’, a character, strength and quality that define him as the complete artistic entity.

The title track sets the Album’s tone, a mid-tempo blues song, featuring the smoky saxophone of Paul Williamson and Janette Geri on backing vocals. Next up is ‘CRY’ a wistful, harmonica-led, anthem for the lost and the lonely who, ‘…walked into the darkness and never came home’ ‘ONE MORE DAY’, a beautiful melodic ballad, this time featuring the John Farnham Band’s, Steve Williams on sax.

GOODNIGHT LOVING (USA)
THE SWINDLERS
Yah Yah’s are over the moon to have one of our favourite bands, GOODNIGHT LOVING, all the way from Milwaukee USA, playing a free show on the Yah Yah’s stage this Thursday with The Swindlers. Goodnight Loving smooth the edges of wild basement punk into something more organic, twangy and irresistibly catchy - effortlessly weaving country, garage rock, folk and pop into a sound all their own. Hailing from rustic Northwoods Wisconsin hamlets, the members converged on Milwaukee in the early 2000s and established themselves as one of a growing number of bands thriving in the basement scene. Sharing the stage with like-minded musical visionaries (Black Lips, Reigning Sound, The Gris Gris, Thomas Function, Strange Boys), touring regularly, and making festival appearances (SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Gonerfest and The Horizontal Action Blackout) has earned them a rabid following that continues to grow. Mixing small town sincerity with big city sophistication is no easy feat, yet Milwaukee’s Goodnight Loving pulls it off with humble confidence. It’s the earnestness, craft and originality of this group that gives them their ability to never disappoint or even ‘just’ meet expectations. And with all members contributing songs to their already impressive canon, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Don’t miss this show, the band are awesome and they’ll be heading back to USA a few days later.
