Wes Carr Buffalo Tales CD launch

Filed under: contemporary music, acoustic music, country music, folk music, CD Launches, Tours — site admin @ 4:57 pm

Wes Carr Plays ‘Buffalo Tales’
Sydney, July 2010 and Wes Carr had just boarded an international flight to Nashville. Getting on the plane, he posed for a few photos, before making his way to his seat. But as the plane began taxiing down the runway, he realised it all felt wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong. Standing up he demanded to be let off the plane. “Please be seated Mr Carr,” buzzed flight staff, but he’d made up his mind.

Letting rip with a torrent of reasons why the plane needed to be turned around, all of which made no real sense to anyone but himself, phone cameras started flashing and voices got louder but Carr’s insistence was impenetrable. After what seemed like years of inch by inch losing his grasp on his own right to say how he felt, the long list of circumstances that had brought him to this exact point in his life all came together in one almighty “No.” The plane and its passengers turned around and Carr was allowed to disembark. Funneled through customs - so began the next phase of his life.

Something with Numbers & Mama Kin

From The Corner Hotel Melbourne Vic, Australia… JUST ANNOUNCED…
with APES and special guest
Friday 15 February 2013 8:30pm
Bursting with melody, ambitious hooks and sincere intent, NSW rockers Something With Numbers return with a brand new single, We Kill The Weekend,’ (click here to download it free) taken from their forthcoming release, ‘Eleven Eleven.’ Off the back of singles like triple j favourites ‘Apple of The Eye (Lay Me Down)’ and ‘Stay With Me Bright Eyes,’ Something With Numbers could have kept powering on but instead, after releasing 2008’s ‘Engineering The Soul,’ they took a five year break. Now, in 2013, Something With Numbers return bigger and better than ever. Working with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, The Whitlams) on their new album, Something With Numbers return to the live circuit, including appearances at Sydney Big Day Out and this single launch show. http://emailunlock.com/stopstartmusic/something-with-numbers-we-kill

MAMA KIN (album launch)
with Spender and special guest
Thursday 11 April 2013 7:30pm
As a purveyor of foot-stomping, New Orleans-inspired bass lines, coupled with ballads of open-hearted tenderness, Mama Kin has earned a reputation for harnessing strength in vulnerability. The ultimate raconteur, a sorcerer of free will and individuality, with her new album, ‘The Magician’s Daughter’, Mama Kin traverses new sonic territory. ‘The Magician’s Daughter’ brims with her signature soul and raw emotion, mining the very depths of the human condition in search of connection and release. With cinematic sensibilities, Mama Kin unleashes a vigour and depth in ‘The Magician’s Daughter’. Brave, bold and yet somewhat fragile, the album slips into the cracks of your subconscious. Watch the video for ‘Was It Worth It’, the first single from ‘The Magician’s Daughter’, here. http://youtu.be/GlktMJzr1vw

Norma Jean & Vanna Tour

Filed under: metal music, Tours — site admin @ 4:32 pm

Hardcore fans rejoice!!
The Mighty NORMA JEAN are returning to our shores for the first time in over 5 years bringing along with them Boston’s finest hardcore purveyors VANNA and Newcastle’s very own SAFE HANDS.
NORMA JEAN has continuously pushed the boundaries of heavy music releasing a slew of seminal albums including ‘O God, The Aftermath,’ and ‘The Anti Mother’ cementing them at the forefront of the metal world. This trend continued with the release of their 5th full length ‘Meridional’ with absolutepunk calling it their “magnum opus, that will be matched by very few within the genre.”

Renowned across the globe for their chaotic and pummeling live shows NORMA JEAN incites rabid fanfare leaving those in attendance in awe and admiration of their performances.
NORMA JEAN are currently holed up in the studio with producer Joshua Barber working on their much anticipated as yet untitled 6th full length due out in 2013. Australian fans will be some of the first in the world to hear new material.
Boston heavyweights VANNA will unleash their ferocious live show on Australian audiences for the first time this May. Their latest full length ‘And They Came Baring Bones’ takes the listener on an unpredictable path filled with dark and angry emotions, but at the end you realise there is a light of self-discovery.

The Rolling Stones 1973
Kooyong Concert to be Re-lived
Sunday 17 February marks 40 years to the day that The Rolling Stones sizzled at Kooyong Tennis Centre during a matinee performance on their infamous ‘Exile On Main Street’ World Tour in 1973.

A track-for-track live tribute will be performed by specifically created local all-star act THE MONKEY MEN, featuring Tim Rogers (You Am I) on lead vocals, Ash Naylor (Even), Davey Lane (You Am I) & Stephen Hadley (Tex Perkins) on guitars, Matthew Cotter (Even) on drums, Bruce Haymes (Renee Geyer) on keys, Jack Howard (ex-Hunters & Collectors) & Ben Marsland on horns and Eliza & Talei Wolfgramm on backing vocals. Max Crawdaddy will DJ and James ‘The Hound Dog’ Young will MC.

The idea is the brainchild of host of RRR’s ‘Off The Record’ Brian Wise and Cherry owner James Young, both self-confessed Rolling Stones’ tragics.
