Edinburgh International Festival 2013

Filed under: world music, performance art, Theatre, Festivals & Major Events, Gigs, General — site admin @ 1:57 pm

News from the Festival
New videos, Festival City soundscape apps launched, guerrilla opera all over Edinburgh, a new summer menu at Cafe Hub, and the chance to help light up Festival 2013.
Don Quichotte du Trocadéro
Combining farce, burlesque and commedia dell’arte with urban and modern dance, film and slapstick comedy, Don Quichotte du Trocadéro is the brilliant new show from José Montalvo. Last seen at the Festival in 2007 with On Danse, where dancers appeared to carry an elephant on a flying carpet, in Montalvo’s universe, expect the unexpected. Have a look at this new trailer and book your tickets now.
Festival City
Composer Tod Machover visited our city in May to introduce his Festival City project - a short new orchestral work - and launch two new web-based music apps - Constellation and Cauldron. These apps allow you to play with the sounds submitted to the Festival City project, and create your own soundscapes. Read more about Constellation on the blog. You can find out more about Festival City and how to submit sounds, or play with the apps yourself.

With Pete Fidler (dobro, guitar, mandolin)
This is a very nice afternoon venue. Nice atmosphere, fine food etc.
…and of course like all venues these days, struggling with attendances and may close soon!
That would be a shame, as I know it’s been popular with everyone who has attended.

The Meanies,The Kremlins, The Dipsticks @The Tote

Filed under: acoustic music — site admin @ 1:42 pm

When the lovely folk from the City of Yarra’s Leaps & Bounds Festival asked THE MEANIES if they’d like to take part in the festivities they of course said “F…. yeah!”

When the lovely folk asked “Where would you like to do the gig?”, THE MEANIES said, “The Tote, of course!”

So here we are, almost 24 years to the day of THE MEANIES first ever show which just happened to be at The Tote, and we’re right back where we started…..
THE MEANIES and The Tote, together like love & marriage, a horse and carriage and whatever other stupid cliche you can think of.
This generation’s Tote lovin’ Meanies would have to be BATPISS so they’re playing too, along with Geelong punks THE KREMLINGS and Jan Juc —- THE DIPSTICKS.

Gonna be a great of a night, it would be churlish to miss it.
Oh, and you may even hear some brand new songs….!

71 Johnston St, Collingwood

Presented by Cheersquad and Leaps & Bounds

Doors open 8pm
$20 + booking fee at http://bit.ly/MeaniesTOTEtix
