Ngaiire debut album: LAMENTATIONS

Ngaiire DEBUT ALBUM LAMENTATIONS
The highly anticipated release of Ngaiire’s debut album Lamentations follows two wildly successful lead singles: ‘Dirty Hercules’ and ‘Around’. And while praise was glowing for both, to hear the tracks assume their rightful place within the divine suite of compositions on Lamentations is to appreciate a stunningly-realised work.

Lamentations – from ‘the act of lamenting’ – as an album title, and conceptual design, derives equally from two sources of inspiration, a favourite composition of Ngaiire’s, ‘Dido’s Lament’ written by English Baroque composer Henry Purcell performed in his opera ‘Dido And Aeneas’ and the Biblical and poetic Book of Lamentations mourning the destructive fall of Jerusalem. Both works reflect Ngaiire’s own persuasion of writing, shedding light on an attraction to the dark beauty of the melancholic.
Says Ngaiire: “I could do without pain and heartache as much as the next person but I also excel in it —and love —and am fascinated with where it can take me mentally. As it may be for a lot of artists, it is often when I am at my best creatively. There is [on the LP] imagery surrounding elements of war [‘Count To Ten’, ‘Around’, ‘Dirty Hercules], death [‘Fireflies’, ‘ABCD’] and emotional and mental battles with myself and people I love [‘Uranus’, ‘Ordinary’, ‘Rabbit Hole’, ‘Novacaine’].

Into the Mystic - Joe Creighton & The Belfast Horns

Filed under: cabaret, Irish music, acoustic music, contemporary music, Gigs, blues music, General — site admin @ 4:43 pm

Stones of the Yarra Valley Proudly Present
Into the Mystic - The Music of Van Morrison
featuring Joe Creighton & The Belfast Horns

Date: Friday, August 2, 2013
Time: Doors open 6.30pm
Cost: $100 per head (three-course dinner & performance – excludes beverages)
Location: 14 St Huberts Rd Coldstream

Legendary Australian singer and bassist Joe Creighton grew up in Belfast during the late 1960s under the backdrop of the civil rights movement, riots, religious and social unrest - remarkable times played out to the soundtrack of Van Morrison and a band simply known as Them.
From the boutiques and coffee shops of Belfast’s Royal Avenue, the anthemnic chorus of G.L.O.R.I.A boomed, cementing a style of music that Joe has carried with him through a career that has seen him play with John Farnham, Kylie Minogue and Olivia Newton John.

Into the Mystic sees Joe Creighton effortlessly recreate the feeling of those heady early days and release the essence of the music that was so integral. He will take the audience on a journey that begins in the 1960s and moves through the decades encompassing Van’s worldwide hits with a sprinkling of some of the more mystical poetic songs from the Astral Weeks album.
