BRAHMS Piano Concerto No.1

Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and Brisbane Festival will present Javier Perianes, one of Spain’s most exciting new artists, for one night only performing Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1 in the QPAC Concert Hall at 8pm on Saturday 14 September. The Orchestra will also perform Stravinsky’s Petrushka under the direction of Principal Guest Conductor, Eivind Aadland.

“Under Aadland’s inspired direction, this concert promises to showcase the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at its best,” QSO’s Director for Artistic Planning, Richard Wenn, said. “The Brahms is one of the top ten piano concertos in the repertory and Stravinsky’s Petrushka ballet score is vibrant and colourful,” Mr Wenn said. “The rhythms in Stravinsky’s Petrushka are infectious,” he added. “It is one of the most brilliant scores ever written.”
Mr Perianes and Mr Aadland first performed together with the QSO in 2010.

Les Thomas ‘Survivor’s Tale’ CD Launch

Les Thomas ‘Survivor’s Tale’ CD Launch
“Les Thomas makes me want to be a better person . . . he’s a bloody good singer-songwriter.”
— Timber and Steel
“In the folk tradition of Woody Guthrie, Les Thomas doesn’t simply sing a story about a stranger, he learns their story, helps give them a voice and uses the medium of music as advocacy. Currently a lot of people get named and promoted as the next great folk artist, but it is people like Les Thomas that keep the origins of folk forefathers alive and true.” — Lauren Duiker, The Orange Press
Local troubadour and activist Les Thomas is pleased to announce his ‘Survivor’s Tale’ album launch at Thornbury Theatre at 7:30pm on Friday September 20 with Justin Bernasconi and Cat Canteri (The Stillsons)!
