Beth Hart Byron Bay Blues Festival

Filed under: blues music, Festivals & Major Events — site admin @ 2:54 pm

Beth Hart Byron Bay Blues Festival
This is one of our Festival Director’s Top Picks. We invite you to check out BETH HART – and you’ll soon know why Peter Noble goes overboard for this woman. First there’s THE VOICE - when she sings, clocks stop, hearts dance, and neck-hair tingles, it’s that compelling!! Then there’s the A-list collaborations with the likes of Jeff Beck, Slash, Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa.

And then there’s the hits ‘LA Song (Out Of This Town)’ (#1 in New Zealand), ‘Sister Heroine’, ‘Am I The One’, ‘Good As It Gets’ . Her new album Bang Bang Boom Boom (out March 14) has been earning this superb singer critical acclaim around the world, showcasing her amazing range across Blues, R&B, Swing and more. BETH HART’S story is one of incredible opportunity, heartbreaking loss, and now, with her recent show-stopping Kennedy Centre performance with Jeff Beck that honoured Blues great Buddy Guy, and the release of Bang Bang Boom Boom, redemption.

With 11 original songs recorded live by Kevin Shirley,Bang Bang Boom Boom gives Beth’s eclectic influences free rein, spinning from ‘Spirit Of God’s’ brassy gospel to the sparse ‘Thru The Window Of My Mind’, with her first ever piano solo on ‘Swing My Thing Back Around’, and an impossibly tender vocal on the Billie Holiday-flavoured ‘Baddest Blues’.

She has recorded two albums with Joe Bonamassa - 2011’s Don’t Explain and this year’s Seesaw.– no mean feat for this amazing guitarist to step back and become sideman for this incredible singer. She is also a featured vocalist on Buddy Guy’s latest album.

Cloud Control National Tour

Filed under: Tours — site admin @ 2:45 pm

Without a doubt, the hardest part about touring is lugging your gear from city to city – especially if you’re doing it out of your own pocket in your uncle’s old Toyota Hiace. The solution? Tour acoustically! All you need is a guitar case, a tambourine, maybe a cowbell*, and your thumb for hitchhiking from town to town – you’ll be making money in no time!

cloud control Unless of course you’re Cloud Control, who have just embarked upon an enormous (read: enormous) national acoustic tour – all for free. We’re not gonna go on too much about all this biz, because you should all know who Cloud Control are, you probably gave Dream Cave a listen, and we need to dedicate a whole lotta space for the tour dates below this blurb. If you’re a small town girl, you won’t need to take the midnight train to catch these guys because they’ll be heading literally everywhere.

Justin Johnson “The Wizard”

Filed under: Tours — site admin @ 2:37 pm

Hailed by Guitar World as a must see act and dubbed “The Wizard” for his mastery of stringed instruments, Justin Johnson has earned many accolades including a 1st place win in the Slidestock International Slide Guitar Competition. His virtuosic playing style has earned him endorsements from guitar and instrument builders around the world. Justin is also one of a select few guitarists that have been hand picked to perform for the Woodstock International Luthier’s Showcase in the USA, and the Deloraine Stringfest in Australia, highlighting the work of many of the finest acoustic guitar builders in the world.

Justin Johnson is one of the premier cigar box guitar performers playing today, highlighting the traditional American Roots instrument in a way that honors the history of the instrument while innovating new approaches by incorporating modern technology. Justin expertly builds layers of music to create a full-band show as a soloist, incorporating up to a dozen stringed instruments including one-string diddley bows, acoustic and electric six-string guitars, twelve-string guitar, cigar box guitars, resonators, mandolin and percussion.

With a style firmly rooted in Blues tradition, but not afraid to break new ground, Justin’s unique sound is the direct result of his passion for combining and advancing widely varying musical forms from all corners of the world. The result is a sound unlike any other: sincere and soulful explorations, waxing between playful romps across the strings, hauntingly pensive Gypsy dreamscapes, and gritty, driving Blues.

Justin has shared bills with many well-known acts such as The Allman Brothers, Victor Wooten, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jeff Coffin, Widespread Panic, Matisyahu, Tim Reynolds and Chris Thomas King, among others.

Justin’s innovative approach is garnering strong international attention. We are proud to be introducing 2014 tour dates Australia.

Delsinki Records

Filed under: CD Launches — site admin @ 2:34 pm

JUNE 25th 2014 EP launch
With 2013 seeing the release of not one but three huge singles, a tour of Australia and Asia singing with the Australian Chamber Orchestra as a part of ‘The Reef’, as well as sold out shows in Melbourne and Sydney for his debut Delsinki Records EP tour, one can forgive Delsinki Records for having a week or two off… but in the words of the man himself “moustache wax isn’t cheap.”
Now one could argue about that statement for quite some time, but there is no argument from fans when it comes to last years releases of “In Over My Head”, “Sanchez” and “Burnt Out by the Light” (the touching tribute to friend and beloved musician Sonny Lewis), Delsinki Records is on a hot streak.
