Art, music and dance from morning until night Launch of the new contemporary wing at Bendigo Art Gallery
Bendigo’s much-loved Chinese Lion Dancers will kick off a day of celebrations on Saturday 15th March, when the new $8.5 million expansion of Bendigo Art Gallery is opened to the public.
The dancers’ colourful (and noisy) blessing to the new wing will be the first in a day-long program of activities designed to celebrate this major new milestone in Bendigo Art Gallery’s long and rich history.
The new $8.5 wing, funded by the City of Greater Bendigo, the Victorian Government and the Bendigo Art Gallery Foundation and designed by architects Fender Katsalidis, offers twice the exhibition space, which means greater flexibility and scope for the Gallery and more opportunities to display the Gallery’s growing collection.
The launch, a day-long program of free events for all ages, is the first opportunity for the public to view the new extension, as well as recent acquisitions from the collection.

DIY Cabaret workshop launch

Filed under: cabaret, performance art, Theatre, Gigs, General — site admin @ 11:27 am

Cabaret’s growth in Melbourne has been further strengthened by several leading venues partnering with the producers of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival and several industry specialists to present ‘DIY Cabaret’ – a new workshop on self-producing your show and gaining an audience. To be held every Wednesday night over eight weeks (15 October to 3 December) the workshop is suitable for emerging and mid-career cabaret performers, aspiring artist managers and marketers, and anyone curious about self-producing works for live performance at venues, festivals and by touring.
Facilitator Neville Sice says “There are plenty of courses out there that help you create a cabaret show. This is not one of them. DIY Cabaret teaches you how to produce your show and gain an audience for it.”

Discounted early bird registration closes 23 September. Go to www.diycabaret.com for more information.
