Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies Kyneton Music Festival

Filed under: bluegrass music, country music, Festivals & Major Events, Gigs — site admin @ 5:29 pm

Following on from a hugely successful January residency/single launch at the Yarra Hotel, Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies are happy to announce some new gigs for your listening pleasure.

They will be playing their solid gold debut single ‘Fighting Mad’ and pub testing other new tunes from their forthcoming album at: Kyneton Music Festival - Feb 20

Toff in Town - Feb 22nd https://www.facebook.com/events/1554902934756703/?pnref=story Supporting Van Walker and Raised By Eagles, who are launching a new single on the night

The Union Hotel Brunswick - March 14

On April 23rd they will be launching their second single at Gasometer Hotel. Stay tuned for supports on the night and more info!
Although Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies wear their hearts on their sleeve, they are more than the sum of their parts and a surprisingly ambitious lot. Not one of
them actually resides in a trailer. Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies started life as Jemma & Her Wise, Young, Ambitious Men, a longwinded and slightly ridiculous name derived from Lefty Frizell’s classic song Saginaw Michigan. They’ve played around Melbourne since 2012 in various guises and this year have renamed themselves and added a few new members to create The Clifton Hillbillies.

Jemma Rowlands - singerwoman & hands on hips holder
Sean McMahon - guitar & vocals
Ben Mastwyk - banjo & vocals
Cal Walker - bass & vocals
Josh Duiker - drums
Jason Bunn - fiddle

Their much-anticipated first album has a lively jamboree feel and features lusty singing, rich instrumentation including twanging pedal steel, harmonies aplenty and a guest appearance by Ben Franz.
The album also features Kate Alexander and Flora Smith.

Superscent and Smells like a Song Impro Melbourne

Filed under: Theatre, Gigs, General — site admin @ 5:23 pm

Sunday nights March 1st to 22nd 2015

Impro Melbourne kicks off our celebratory year of improvisation in Melbourne
with an exciting double bill of improvised story and song!
SuperScene - Four Directors, Four Unique Stories but Only One will survive. After each round of scenes, the audience decides which storyline is eliminated, until one director and one storyline remain to play out the coveted final scene …. the SuperScene. It’s ‘Survivor’ for the Theatre! Created by the Die Gorillas company in Berlin, Germany and shared with Impro Melbourne, the audience holds the power and the directors must pull out all the stops to keep their story alive !

Smells Like A Song - A flick of the wrist, a toss of a rose and the audience becomes the musical director of a full-blown musical. Launching a rose towards the stage, with a cry of “Smells Like a Song!” our players, with jaw-dropping obedience, burst into original song. Anything goes - a ballad, blues, rock opera, solo, duet or Broadway chorus - our musician and the moment decide the style but the players must respond to the audience’s call. And what performer doesn’t love a stage strewn with roses!

Two shows for the price of one.
The Impro Melbourne Ensemble led by directors Patti Stiles and Kevin Yank, are thrilled to welcome back the fabulous musical talent of Boris Connelly (Ennio Morricone Experience, Chad Bradley-How To Make a Musical) as our Musical Director and musician for this season. There is no musical style he cannot improvise!

Discovering Malcolm Hill is like finding a diamond in the desert. Brilliant. Undeniable.Once you listen to Malcolm nothing will sound the same

Dave Graney: You’d be hard pressed to find a more self generated artist who has made interesting work in both music and dramatic performance over a number of years. All his best work is full of the palpable physical energy and the thrill of performance and creation.

Cat McGauran, 3PBS Breakfast Spread:
Voir Nights masterfully captures Malcolm’s energy and passion for live performance, which is why it’s been a favourite for me this year.
