The legendary MIDGE URE will return to Australia in April to perform five shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle.
The voice of Ultravox and co-writer of the historic, blockbuster hit “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” (in collaboration with Bob Geldof) last visited our shores two years ago with his three-piece band, selling out venues and earning high praise from critics and fans.
More recently, he has been touring Europe and receiving standing ovations for his one-man acoustic concerts, mesmerising audiences with intimate versions of his cherished hits from Ultravox, Visage and his solo career. It is in this mode, Australian fans will be treated to a rare, up-close-and-personal experience with Midge Ure.
Scottish-born Ure has been fearlessly innovative over the years - through creative production and songs like Fade to Grey (Visage), Vienna and Dancing With Tears in My Eyes (Ultravox) and his solo gems including “If I Was” and “No Regrets” - all of which will be performed in stripped back form … just the man himself, his guitar and THAT voice.
Ultravox was a major influence on the new romantic and electro-pop movements of the early ’80s, and continue to be so today. Their successful trademark was combining Midge’s powerful guitar riffs with sweeping synthesiser motifs and state-of-the-art visuals.
Ure’s 1984 co-songwriting effort with Bob Geldof, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ was a heartfelt contribution to Ethiopian famine relief, and a worldwide fundraising phenomenon resonating stronger than ever in Christmas 2014, when the song reached the No. 1 chart position in 65 countries with a new version and revised lyrics to help fund the fight against the Ebola virus.
