A Benefit concert for the much loved guitarist extraordinaire Ross Hannaford is to be held on SAT 18th July at MEMO Music hall in Acland St, St Kilda.
Ross is unfortunately battling some serious health issues now, so Memo Music Hall and many of his musical friends will gather together to pay tribute to his mighty creative spirit and amazing talent and to raise much needed funds to assist him in his fight.

The night will be hosted by Brian Nankervis from ROCKWIZ
ROCKWIZ ORCHESTRA (Peter Luscombe, James Black & Mark Ferrie)
RUSSELL SMITH (keys) with more special guests to be announced soon!

Ross is adored and respected by Melbourne and Australia’s music loving audience and fellow musicians alike. He’s brightened many a stage in his brilliant sartorial style accompanied by his rainbow starburst painted guitar.
An Aria hall of fame inductee as a founding member of Daddy Cool, Ross’s musical history spans 50 years. Beginning in the mid 60’s at age 16 with the Pink Finks, then Party Machine, Sons of the Vegetal Mother, Daddy Cool, Mighty Kong, Bambu, Billy T, One Foundation, Lucky Dog , Small Axe, Dianna Kiss (10 year residency at the Espy) to last year’s Critters. Back in the 90’s when Paul Kelly was asked why he lived in Melbourne, his reply was “Where else in the world can you see Ross Hannaford play for free every Monday night?’
Ross has also added his distinctive magic to many recordings and bands over the years such as Mark Gillespie, Goanna, Black Sorrows, Paul Madigan, Ian Moss, Renee Geyer and so many more.
Ross recently discovered a love of busking. On the suggestion of good friend, indigenous musician songwriter Bart Willoughby (No Fixed Address) they took to the street and recorded two CDS. Ross loves the immediacy of playing on the street and revelled in the anonymity of it. As Ross said in an interview with the ABC last year…
” if you want to pull in some attention, you’ve got to do something interesting or different.
“It means I’m connecting afresh, not relying on anything in the past.”
There will be an auction of some terrific items, including some great music memorabilia.

life is noise is pleased to announce the 2015 tour of US noise rock outfit A Place to Bury Strangers.
It’s almost become a cliché now: “the loudest band in New York.” So renowned is the reputation of A Place to Bury Strangers’ wall-of-sound assault that the Brooklyn trio even sell their own branded earplugs on tour. But if you’ve ever found yourself enveloped in the synesthetic chaos that is their live show, you’ll find they more than live up to the moniker. And if you haven’t, well, you’re in for a treat. That’s because A Place to Bury Strangers’ live show is one of the best in the world. These three are merchants of sensory overload, claiming every inch of space for their kaleidoscopic orgy of light of sound.

From the soon to be release album “The Spirit” (August 14)
“Suffocatingly rich through its brooding, desolate atmospherics and Race’s gravel-throated whispers… Race and his True Spirit collective place a smouldering torch under the corner of psychedelic, bluesy ambience and allow it to morph into a cusp of experimental smoke and expanding, eerie beats. Concerned lyrically with the dawn of the new millennium, Race accentuates the ethereal feel with couplets as scathing and focused as “you aint getting the real juice/just stupid lies and half-truths”, whilst rarely veering from the monotone murmurs that make this such a haunting and weighty listen. Essential listening.” Logo UK
Melbourne psychedelic rock and roots four piece, Hugo Race and The True Spirit are set to release their second single “Wildcards” on Saturday July 18th as part of the Leaps and Bounds Festival at iconic Fitzroy venue Yah Yahs. Special guest on the night will be Stu Thomas Paradox and Julitha Ryan.
