A Different Way Home @ Chapel off Chapel

Filed under: Theatre — site admin @ 8:09 pm

A Different Way Home
When family is everything you need…but not what you want.
This AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE is proudly brought to you by our community partner annecto & the City of Stonnington as part of the 2015 Seniors Week Festival.
A DIFFERENT WAY HOME is an exceptionally touching play written by U.K. playwright Jimmie Chinn, which conveys the need for families to communicate and how, in an ideal world, love and affection would transcend prejudice. Through their dysfunctional relationship the siblings teach us how love, laughter and loss are what bind us together as family.

This unusual and poignant black comedy starts act one with the character Leslie telling us why there is very little love lost between he and his seemingly uncaring sister Maureen.
In act two Maureen gives us a glimpse into why she made the decision to break away from a family she found hard to be a part of. The play although poignant and touching, also gives us a great deal of laughter. It also asks, how do we cope with losing a loved one?

A Different Way Home features prominent Melbourne performer Michael Dalton in the roles of Leslie and Maureen.”It has been a few years since I tackled something quite so in depth and challenging, it’s an exciting time and I intend to grab it with both hands.”

KATE CEBERANO and Mike Brady 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final

KATE CEBERANO and Mike Brady to play at the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final
The AFL is pleased to announce that two more performers, Kate Ceberano and Mike Brady, have been added to the line-up of musical acts playing at the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
Australia’s high priestess of pop, Kate Ceberano, will perform the Australian National Anthem in the lead up to the centre bounce on Saturday, October 3 at the MCG.

Melbournian Ceberano, who in 2014 was the first Australian woman to be inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) Hall of Fame following decades of hits such as ‘Brave’, ‘Bedroom Eyes’ and ‘Pash’, said she was ecstatic to be chosen to perform the anthem on the biggest day in Australian sport.
“It’s such an honour and privilege to be asked to perform, I’m truly thrilled,” she said.
“I made my first Grand Final appearance in 2002 and feel very excited to have my daughter see her mum in the MCG singing our National Anthem.”
Australian singer/songwriter Mike Brady will perform his iconic anthem ‘Up There Cazaly’, a former best-selling Australian single that remains intrinsically linked to Australian Football some 36 years after its original release.
‘Up There Cazaly’, referring to former St Kilda and South Melbourne great Roy Cazaly, was written to promote the then Victorian Football League. The single reached number one on the Australian charts in September 1979 and at the time went on to be the highest selling Australian single of all time.
“As an entertainer, I believe it is one of the greatest moments of one’s career to be able to sing in front of such a large audience on such an important day for the Australian Community,” he said.

“I’m thrilled to be asked back.”
Ceberano and Brady’s inclusion adds to the already announced performers list of Bryan Adams and Ellie Goulding in the Virgin Australia Pre-Game Showand American crooner Chris Isaak.
Adams and Goulding will also play at the Virgin Australia Premiership Party, first introduced in 2012 as an unprecedented fan event that sees the MCG open its gates to the public following the conclusion of the Toyota AFL Grand Final. The free encore performance is followed by the 2015 AFL Premiers being presented to fans for the first time.

September 21st UN International Day of Peace

Filed under: Festivals & Major Events — site admin @ 7:58 pm

Dear Peaceniks,
Monday, September 21 is the UN designated International Day of Peace.
I am inviting you to be a part of the events we have scheduled on the day, whether it be as a participant, a photographer or writer.
In addition to our Peace Tree Project, we are also celebrating the day by ring Bells at St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square.
St Paul’s has organised an angelic band of nine bell-ringers and the bells will toll from 12 to 12.15 pm. Federation Bells will ring from 1pm and play original compositions in support of World Peace Day. Peaceful people are invited to walk amongst the 39 computer controlled bells as they chime the dawn of a new age of peace. Then play the bells yourself as part of a spontaneous group composition, led by the City of Melbourne’s Curator of Musical Instruments, Ariel Valent.
Also for your consideration, Melbourne Conversations will host an expert panel, and discuss the issues around securing greater peace in the home and in the street.
Panelists include:
- Prof Megan Davis, Director UNSW Indigenous Law Centre, Chair United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
- Ms Laura John, 2014 UN Australian Youth Ambassador
- Dr Dina McMillan, Social Psychologist and Consultant
- Acting Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir, Victorian Police
Hosted by Michael Short, journalist and editor of The Zone, Fairfax Media.
Supported by Australians for Peace and Future Leaders.

These are all free events although you do have to book for the Melbourne Conversations event.

Mon: 6pm – 7.30pm
Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start
Bookings available via
03 9658 7239
sam.keil@melbourne.vic.gov.au

I hope you’ll be able to attend one or more of these events and please let me know if you can come and photograph on the day. I can offer a very delicious breakfast for a couple of lucky photographers/writers. RSVP for details.
Thanks for your time.
Peace.
