Song Contest – the Almost Eurovision Experience

Filed under: Comedy, Theatre — site admin @ 9:16 am

Song Contest – the Almost Eurovision Experience” is a glitzy comedic and loving tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest. It hits its target bang on, with eleven countries competing, a multitude of anxious contestants, a gushing hostess and all the quirkiness that both delights us and makes us cringe in a single breath.
The audience voting is authentic with the potential for a different winner every night (come a couple of times and you will see it’s not rigged.)
This show is safe to bring along your kids, friends, spouse and your sweetheart.

It’s just like being at the finals of Eurovision, which this year happens to be in Belarus’ capital city, Minsk.
All original songs – each one very “Eurovisiony” (yes that is a word.) This show has wind-blown hair power ballads, pretty glitter boy pop, soulful groove and all manner of patriotic foolishness. It’s all here. The songs are top shelf and sound just like something you have heard before on Eurovision, only different and a bit wrong.

When you come to the show you will get a free badge that designates which country you represent. Just go with it, get completely swept up in the utter foolishness, dress up, share drinks (which you can pre-order on the Song Contest App) and you’ll have a blast.
The competition is real but the rivalry is friendly and always with a nail-biting finish. So cheer on your adopted country, wave your flag and make some noise. If you sign up to be a Eurovisionary you can download the Song Contest App and get all the good deals.

Competing Countries: Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Italy, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland and Russia. And Norway, so eleven.

We invite you to be included in the party and visit us at www.songcontest-musical.com to become a member of our “Eurovisionary” team when you book your seats now, as in immediately.

Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks

We welcome back Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks to the Caravan for another rockin gig.
From the time Ross Wilson, the future Daddy of Cool began to Mondo Rock out of suburban Hampton with the 1960’s outfit The Pink Finks, he was intrinsically aware of the heritage of growing up on the fringes of a major city. When he performed in 1966 at The Onion Patch, home of the Red Onions Jazz Band, little did he know he would be returning 48 years later to the very same stage, now The Caravan Club, to perform a homage to the streets of his youth. The semi-acoustic, pared back Ross Wilson Quartet’s Oakleigh debut will highlight the locality references in many of his songs and introduce a parochial spin to songs that have hitherto had a more worldly connotation. Not only expect to hear songs of place from his latest I Come In Peace CD like Fishin’ on a Rainy Day and Land of Contentment, but reworkings of classics like Living In The Land Of Oz and maybe even the Wilson produced Skyhooks classic anthem Carlton. No Mr Eagle Rock show would be complete without all the classic hits of Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock that have become the soundtrack to our lives. Come Said The Boy to the Spring Rockin’ Carnival.

Ross Wilson is probably the only person in Australian rock music who can’t make a comeback simply because he’s never been away. In a career that spans over 40 years Ross remains one of this country’s most respected artists. From Daddy Cool to Mondo Rock, as a solo artist, or as songwriter of A-grade classics such as Eagle Rock, Cool World and A Touch of Paradise, or producer of the legendary Skyhooks, Jo Jo Zep, The Johnnys, & more recently The Screaming Jets, Ross’s involvement with success has continued unabated. He fronted Daddy Cool & exploded out of the 70s playing rootsy 50s sounds. Then formed Mondo Rock who surfed the contemporary scene with chart topping singles & albums from the mid 70s to the late 80s. As a solo performer and major songwriter he continued to achieve success & make his mark during the 90s & beyond with his songs being recorded by artists as diverse as Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, DEF-FX, Custard, Jennifer Rush (EU), Troy Cassar-Daley, Leslie Avril, Hey Gringo, You Am I, Uncle Bill, Keke (Spain), Renee Geyer, Christine Anu, Duane Jarvis (US), Elkie Brooks (UK), Ann Kirkpatrick & Lee Kernaghan, Sovereign, Pleasantville, Beccy Cole, Sonic Jihad, and The Wiggles! On trips to Europe & the USA he collaborated with O/S writers & concluded the millenium as a special guest performer on John Farnham’s “I Can’t Believe I’m 50” tour & live CD/DVD.
