Held in genuine affection by the public for her years on national television, and her acting career, Alyce is also highly regarded by her peers as a singer, songwriter and recording artist. She has collaborated and recorded with a diverse array of Australian producers and musicians. J. P. Shilo of the Hungry Ghosts produced and recorded her critically acclaimed album, BEAUTIFUL DEATH and follow up FUNNY LITTLE WORLD.

THE FISH SHOP COLLECTIVE - is a diverse roster of Melbourne’s elite musicians who played on Alyce’s album as well as being part of her stunning live band. Because the line-up varies from show to show, performances are always deliberately unique and fresh - not “carbon-copies”.
BAND MEMBERS - Stephen Hadley (Tex Perkins’ Dark Horses), Clare Moore (Coral Snakes), Jack Howard (Hunters and Collectors), Claude Carranza (Black Sorrows), Bruce Haymes (Paul Kelly), Peter Farnan (Boom Crash Opera), Jen Anderson (You Am I) and Roger Bergodaz (Lost Ragas)
“What a band… Alyce’s songs are special and she delivers ‘em in a very compelling manner often staring out at the audience with the gaze of a dazzled innocent. I was thoroughly bewitched by the wonderful music and the door it opened into a very cool and groovy world”

STEVE KILBEY - (The Church)

Eagle & The Wolf to join Hayes Carll on Australian Dates

Filed under: country music — site admin @ 6:37 pm

Eagle & The Wolf to join Hayes Carll on Australian Dates
With their debut single ‘Mama, Son and The Holy Ghost’ hitting #1 on the AMRAP Charts Eagle & The Wolf have attracted plenty of admirers over the past few months. After sharing stages with the likes of Charlie Parr, Corey Harris and Kasey Chambers, the duo of Sarah Humphreys and Kristen Lee Morris have been handpicked to open for Hayes Carll, one of the great modern day songsmiths in Melbourne and Sydney.
Their self titled album, ‘Eagle & The Wolf’, is as raw and heartfelt as it gets and the performances are stunning. Released in March the album has received rave reviews from Rhythms Magazine, Rolling Stone and Sydney Morning Herald to name but a few. The duo are set to release their new single ‘Hips’ in the coming weeks. A song Kris describes as “the sexiest hillbilly hoe down you’re ever likely to hear”.
Eagle & The Wolf will also be part of the bill at The Morrison Hotel’s ‘Welcome to Morrisonville’ alongside Carll, Kinky Friedman, The Weeping Willows and Paddy McHugh on Saturday October 15 in Brisbane.
About Hayes Carll - Hayes Carll is at the forefront of a generation of American singer/songwriters. A Texas native, his style of roots-oriented songwriting has been noted for its plain-spoken poetry and sarcastic humour. He was nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Country Song, and American Songwriter awarded him with Song of the Year for “Another Like You” in 2011, the same year he was nominated for Artist of the Year at the Americana Awards.
Now Hayes has returned with a powerful and raw set of songs produced by Joe Henry (Glen Hansard, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt) entitled ‘Lovers and Leavers’. The record marks a new chapter for Hayes - he has gone through much personal change in the 5 years since his last release, and he mines the depths of these experiences on this record. Sonically, he has stripped away some of the country sounds that marked his previous records, thus highlighting his well-worn voice and placing his straightforward and heartfelt lyrics at the centre.

The City Speaks ACCA

The City Speaks
7 – 20 November 2016

The second in a series where ACCA takes art out of the gallery and into the laneways, parks and public spaces of Melbourne, The City Speaks will examine the enduring relationship between visual art and language.

Through performance, installation and spoken word, participating artists and writers will examine the ways art and language can come together to enliven and interrupt public space, and contribute to ideas about the city, urbanism and community.

Newly-commissioned works have been designed to encourage a wide public audience to rethink the definition of art and consider how it might reflect, enrich, and even alter, urban space and society.

Curated by Annika Kristensen, the program includes:

The sign: Marnie Edmiston, Jordan Marani, Steven Rhall, Alex Selenitsch and Hossein Valamanesh
A series of commissioned A0 posters distributed widely across the city.

The signifier: Raquel Ormella
Text-based banners in three ground-floor windows in the CBD that borrow aesthetically from sporting and protest banners to question the relationship between human agency, political economy and environment.

The performer: Jacqui Shelton
Jacqui Shelton’s performance work, News of the building of the wall, calls upon Kafka’s short story of the same name as a starting point for an investigation into the intimate and physical ways in which we communicate. Framed more as an encounter than an artwork, the work can only be accessed through a one-on-one encounter with the artist and the willing engagement of the participant.

The pedestrians: Sophie Cunningham, Christos Tsiolkas and Alia Gabres
Walking tours of the city by acclaimed writers and artists on the weekends of 12/13 and 19/20 November, 3–4 pm

The response: Romy Ash
Melbourne-based writer Romy Ash will write a response to Jacqui Shelton’s performance News of the building of the wall for publication on ACCA’s website.

Epilogue: Danae Valenza
Like lost children we live our unfinished adventures is an installation of eight neon sculptures that transcribes the title of the work in shorthand text. The movement and proximity of people passing by these sculptures will prompt a burst of coloured light and sound – with each neon paired to a different instrument.

The City Speaks has been proudly supported by the City of Melbourne.
