‘After Midnight’ by the Sure Shot Hunters - debut album released

Filed under: blues music, rock music — site admin @ 9:51 am

The Sure Shot Hunters are an Australian band. They embrace a new musical direction that pays loving homage to the past, while catapulting their own original tunes straight ahead into the future. Their mix of Chicago style blues and Southern Australian rock draws from the timeless influences of Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Muddy Waters all the way through to their contemporaries The John Butler Trio, Ben Harper and John Mayer. After more than 300 live gigs the Sure Shot Hunters have drawn their bows and are ready to score their first bull’s eye with 12 new tunes that will rock you.

The Sure Shot Hunters are:
Zevon Hiltz - lead Vox, guitar
Nick Delaney - bass
Alejandro Adams - drums

The Sure Shot Hunters will be performing songs from ‘After Midnight’ live for the PBS Radio Festival Show at The Evelyn Band Room on 27th June - Free admission for PBS members, $10 non-members.

Doors: 8pm

In the 3 years that the Sure Shot Hunters have been performing together, this 3 piece blues-infused powerhouse have graced the stage at many of Australia’s finest festivals and have maintained a regular sold out residency at the Revellers Bar in Prahran every week for a solid 1 1/2 years. They’ve been building a loyal and dedicated fan base and have played at the Forum, Prince Bad Room, Evelyn, The Toff In Town and Rainbow Hotel. They’ve aimed high and scored big at fests including High Vibes, Afro Beats and the St Kilda Festival and have been joined onstage by members of Blue King Brown and True Live.

The debut single ‘Thoughts Into Your Mind’ has received air play on Triple J’s Roots’n All show with Sarah Howells and the band has been invited to play twice on the PBS Studio 5 Live Sessions.
‘After Midnight’ was recorded at Thirty Mills Studios and was produced by Ivan ‘Choi’ Khatchoyan (legendary drummer with the mighty True Live) and was engineered by Jason Cash (Jeff Lang, Bic Runga), both of whom received grateful thanks and respect from the Sure Shot Hunters for their work.

“…Rarely does a band come along with such an unpretentious and groovy approach to the craft of music. The Sure Shot Hunters, as their name suggests, have no such fears; bring a confident approach to the sounds they make and proving that their aim is true. They are utterly unafraid to explore the boundaries of rhythm, blues, funk and revel in testing their abilities to forge something new from the ashes of the old.” - Lance Lelwellyn - Pith Records - March, 2008

“…The Sure Shots paid homage to the Fender Stratocaster and then lead singer Zevon sat down and played slide guitar ala John Butler. The song was an absolute highlight. The passion in playing and singing burned bright…a real highlight of the night….” Neil Wedd - Indie Initiative - September, 2007

“…This band is like a combination of early Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and Jimi Hendrix’s band of Gypsies, with a twist of raw Australian blues/rock thrown in for good measure…a great diverse set and a band that will definitely turn heads in the years to come. - Milan Perkins - Punter/Songwriter/Man of Taste - December, 2007
