What else is on in June!
Ron The Zookeeper @ Fitzroy Shorts
Ron the Zookeeper, by Darcy Prendergast
Ron the Zookeeper, created by Melbourne-based animator Darcy Prendergast, has been selected for screening at the Annecy Festival in June. Annecy is the number one international competitive festival, and for over 45 years the town has been showing off the very best in animation during six days of festivities. Fitzroy Shorts is proud to be screening Ron the Zookeeper in June.
Prendergast’s film is one of six Australian films selected for this prestigious French festival, and to be selected at the age of 21 is a significant achievement for the young filmmaker. Darcy Prendergast’s film, Ron The Zookeeper (2007), is a short clay animation about a panda called Sushi, and a zoo keeper who is assigned the unenviable task of collecting the panda’s sperm. Sushi is the last male grey panda left in the entire world, and Ron the Zookeeper is unwillingly sent in to do the dirty work. His task is to ensure the survival of the species by retrieving a sperm sample from the ageing bear. Ron the Zookeeper is Prendergast’s third film. His first two films, Off The Rails (2004) and Repugnant (2005), received acclaim at festivals in Australia and abroad.
From his humble beginnings drawing on the living room walls, to entertaining mates in art class with his cheeky and often R-rated clay creations, Darcy Prendergast’s skills have grown enormously. Inspired greatly by the work of Jim Henson, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Dave Williams and Matt Lucas, Prendergast mixes a gritty animated style with a twisted sense of humour to form a juggernaut of entertainment and controversy. Darcy is currently working at the ABC as an animator.
WHY YOU NEED TO COME: Win a bean bag from Crumpler to the value of $300.00 and DVD’s from Madman to the vlaue of $200.00.
