VULTURES OF VENUS
THE FILTHY BOURGEOIS
ELECTRIC EDEN
Vultures of Venus are the latest, greatest rock band to come out of the Melbourne underground, the premier rock n’ roll city in Australia. Their songs span many genres combining their love of all things psychedelic and glam-punk-electro at its finest. Enhancing the presence of their electro-tinged garage glitz glam rock the Vultures have recently released their debut album to a stunning reception in Fitzroy thanks to the allegiance of the inner-north Melbourne warehouse party scene. The Filthy Bourgeois are a psychedelic folk pop grunge band from Melbourne comprising of 4 boys, 2 brothers, 1 Indo and 1 Czech. 76 years old when put together, the band enjoy skipping stones, long walks on the beach, sunsets, Bombay Sapphire, nangs, motorbikes and mad amounts of orgy’s. The band’s primary goal is to live in an ice dome palace in the desert with a harem on the 3rd floor and a camel manned elevator. If you wish to discuss these things with them, get down to Bar Open this Thursday night.

LANEOUS & THE FAMILY YAH (BRIS)
It’s been a few months since the last time and we’ve all been waiting for the time to come around again, so we’re pleased to announce that Bar Open favourites and one of this country’s most exciting hip hop acts Laneous & The Family Yah are back for another Friday night of party action. The “Loveable Tramp with the clamped, cramped fist in the air like he just don’t care”, Laneous, makes grunty rudeboy soul and croon punk for the backbeat generation. Joined by the 4 piece Family Yah the Monte Carlos of Brisbane’s assorted creams - and the all singing, all dancing, all romancing Bird Fire Choir, Laneous will set the stage alight with his psychedelic hip-hop fires. Ooooooooohhhh shit … call the fire brigade!!!

THE KURTS
Melbourne is happy to welcome back THE KURTS after a 6 month absence. During their time away, the mini orchestra has apparently been travelling all through the famous ‘Youkali’ collecting their favourite mix of Kurt Weill songs plus many new and old dance numbers of Western Europe and the Americas. Hailing as far back as the 1920’s this band cover waltzes, tango and swing with the occasional bit of nostalgia thrown in. Members are gathered from other Melbourne bands such as Zulya and the children of the Underground, Vulgargrad, Wintership Quartet, Nervous Doll Dancing and Hoodoo Mayhem. Performing at Bar Open on Sat 20th March, THE KURTS will feature internationally acclaimed Julia Messenger on vocals as a guest for the 6 piece outfit.

DEAD ANTS RAINBOW
PIONEERS OF GOOD SCIENCE
FRANCO COZZO
The underground rise to the foreground at Bar Open with some of Melbourne’s (and surrounding’s)finest noise acts.
Firstly local boys Franco Cozzo attempt to deafen while laying down a funky groove, destroying preconceived ideas about what one guitar and one drum kit can do. Secondly Ballarats own fuzzy hipsters Pioneers of Good Science mix droning guitar, punk druming and catchy guy girl vocals. To round off the night Dead Ants Rainbow bring chaos, destruction and music together in a beautiful display for all of Melbounre to hear.

Voulez-vous Laugh avec moi?
How do you prove that you are a skilled migrant when your job is stand-up comedy? According to
Berty, the customs officer simply laughed at his accent and approved his visa. This might be true, but again so might be his claim that he travels with a sea-urchin costume, or that his rabbit was killed by a tiny meteorite. With a polished and unhostile approach, Berty Cadilhac tells absurd tales about his experience in Australia, from his failed attempts to be eaten by a shark, to his addiction to a popular Australian food, souvlaki.
Berty lies a lot.But at least he does not pretend to be French or arrogant. He really is.

The Audition
Two women meet and bond while waiting for an audition in a hallway. But how will their newfound friendship fare when they realise they’re both in the running for the same gig?
An engaging and hilarious meditation on show business (or is it show friends?) and the business of getting hired, fired, and lots of other things that rhyme with “ired”, The Audition follows on from Brenna and Clem’s riotous 2009 examination of “women’s issues”, Club XX.
They tried to find an inspiring quote about the audition process but all they came up with was Paul Abdul saying, “if you fail to prepare, prepare to fail”. So, on that positive note, they’d like to present The Audition!
“Natural performers … mocking, self-deprecating and funny.” The Age
“Wonderful … thoroughly entertaining, jolly fun.” The Groggy Squirrel
