SCREEN SECT: Easy Rider (Dennis Hopper, 1973)
As the film world mourns the passing of the one-of-a-kind renegade actor/director Hopper, we present, in tribute, his iconic debut masterwork, a psychedelic road movie which underscored the dark, doomed side of the Hippy dream as it ushered in a new era of independent filmmaking. Stars Peter Fonda, Hopper and Jack Nicholson.

MAKE IT UP CLUB
The Make It Up Club is committed to nurturing, presenting and promoting avant-garde improvised music and sound performance of the highest conceptual and performative standards, regardless of idiom, genre, or instrumentation. Whilst traditional forms of avant-garde improvisation are welcomed, MIUC programming policy gives priority to projects which challenge the boundaries of current musical trends and which are predominantly, though not exclusively, improvisational in nature.

Regular Babble CEO Sean M Whelan is traveling to New York in June, so while he’s away Anthony O’Sullivan is going to look after shop. So come on down for this special Birthday themed edition of Babble Why ‘Birthday?’ Because it’s Anthony’s birthday!! Show him the love, with your best birthday themed poems.
Also a very special guest on the night will be the wonderful Eleanor Jackson, making her Babble feature debut. Definitely not to be missed.

PARLIAMENT OF ROOKS
This night of June the 10th will start with Parliament of Rooks, featuringan intense frontman, caught up and centered in the middle oftheir bouncing, dirty brand of post-punk.Toyota War, who have been described as “one of the most interesting and arresting young bands in melbourne at the moment,” will be up next. They also have a frontman, and to complete this triad of post-punk goodness will be Shutter Stop, a haunting 3-piece who have been said to sound like New Order, devoid of frontmen. Sick.

KING MARONG & AFRO MANDINKO
B Gambian Master Percussionist King Marong and his band Afro Mandinko deliver a breath of fresh air into the Australian African/World music scene with their original cross genre style and dynamic stage presence. Drawing on influences from across West Africa ranging from coastal Gambian highlife to deep Saharan Desert Blues, Afro Mandinko fuses the centuries old traditions of West Africa with the contemporary sounds of Western styles, creating a vibrant blend of irresistible dance music. With elements of afrobeat, funk, latin, reggae, dance-hall and jazz it’s a modern mix, underpinned by the deep roots of the traditional rhythms and melodies of Kings Manding heritage. Bar Open welcome’s their culturally kaleidoscopic and captivating live show back after NYE! PEEEEOW.

THE LOWDOWN STREET ORCHESTRA
The Lowdown Street Orchestra is a 9-piece collective of jazz and funk musicians who mix the New Orleans Brass Band Street Funk tradition with covers from artists as diverse as Rage Against The Machine, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, The Cure and Frank Zappa. Their sousaphone-driven funk grooves have been heard out on the street AT festivals across Melbourne, as well as rocking out at pub gigs, rallies, parades and, on at least two occasions, on the back of bike trailers.

The Band Who Knew Too Much are a bona-fide foolproof floor-packing band. These mobsters return to the newly carpeted and only venue to ever have a full crowd AND band completely nude on a Sunday.
