baroque celebration in Brisbane

Filed under: Festivals & Major Events — site admin @ 9:50 am

Brisbane welcomes world’s leading artists for baroque celebration.
This Friday marks the beginning of the second Brisbane Baroque – the festival that won an extraordinary five Helpmann Awards last year and is exclusive to the city. On Friday morning at 11am some of the world’s leading Baroque artists will be officially welcomed to the city by Brisbane Baroque Artistic Director, Mr Leo Schofield.
Artists attending the official welcome include:
MS ULRIKE SCHNEIDER – the star of Brisbane Baroque’s centrepiece AGRIPPINA, Ms Schneider is an acclaimed global operatic performer and journeys to Brisbane from Germany. Agripinna will be performed four times during Brisbane Baroque, and it is the first complete staging of this masterpiece in Australia.

MS VIVICA GENAUX – Brisbane Baroque is honoured to present the exclusive Australian concert debut of this internationally renowned American virtuoso mezzo soprano. One of the most dynamic and exciting artists, Ms Genaux will perform in Vivica + Vivaldi with the Camerata of St John’s on Sunday evening.

MS GRETA BRADMAN – star soprano Greta Bradman is acclaimed internationally as a recitalist, concert and stage performer. Just as her grandfather the great Don Bradman commanded the world’s attention on the cricket field, so too does Greta in the great music halls around the globe. Ms Bradman will star in Bach – Music in the Castle of Heaven on Saturday evening, before flying overseas to perform.

MR LAURENCE DALE – one of the opera world’s leading directors, and the director of Agrippina. After an extremely successful career as one of the leading lyric tenors, singing role at Glyndebourne, Vienna, Berlin and Paris, Laurence Dale was encouraged by the legendary director Peter Brooks to turn his hand to directing. Lauded by critics and audiences alike for his Agrippina.

Brisbane Baroque will be held from April 8 to 16 at stunning venues all over Brisbane. It is the only dedicated baroque music festival in the southern hemisphere, and celebrates an era of unmatched creative energy. After scooping the pool at last year’s Helpmann Awards with an unprecedented five wins, the successful Brisbane Baroque has expanded the 2016 season and this year will showcase international stars and a host of emerging Australian musicians. www.brisbanebaroque.com.au
