Between the Bays Music Festival returns ‘09
bigger and better than ever – March 21st 09!
Between the Bays is back and better than ever bringing you some of Australia’s favourite musicians and showcasing Mornington Peninsula’s finest food, wine and lifestyle!
Now in its fourth year, The Between the Bays Music Festival has been a hit with both locals and visitors to the region, drawing thousands of music lovers and families to a day of great music, gourmet food and fine wine in the picturesque setting of the Penbank School in Moorooduc.
And this year may just be the best yet, as the Between the Bays team bring you yet another stellar line up to the Mornington Peninsula for 2009.
We are very pleased to announce that this year’s line up will feature none other than one of Australia’s most prolific musicians Diesel and his wonderful band to help you rock your socks off! Diesel is sure to have everyone dancing and singing into the night as he performs songs from his many great albums including his most recent release, ‘Days Like These’. Diesel has done the maths on this new album - in fact, ‘Days Like These’ is not only a stellar album, it’s a numerological marvel. “The freakiest thing, if you want trivial numbers,” Diesel states, “is the fact the CD is exactly 36 minutes, 36 seconds and 36 milliseconds. I don’t even wanna know what the next measurement of time is after that, ‘cos it’d probably be 36 as well.” All we know, is it’s great to have Diesel at BTB!
We are also very excited to welcome Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows to Between the Bays. We have had many requests for these guys to perform at our festival, and so we have finally booked them for 2009. Joe Camilleri has enjoyed a career in music like no other. For over 40 years he has wowed on stage and on CD. His songs, including ‘Shape I’m In‘, ‘Hit & Run‘, ‘Harley & Rose‘ and ‘Chained To The Wheel‘ are a part of our lives. Grab a drink, enjoy the sunset whilst listening to this wonderful Australian Band.
Speaking of wonderful and talented Australian artists, Deborah Conway is sure to impress our festival goers when she performs at Between the Bays for the very first time. Deborah is one of those rare artists who are constantly reinventing themselves. Her new album Summertown is no exception. Deborah and long-term partner and collaborator, Willy Zygier have written their most seductive offering of songs yet, rendered with warmth and charm. We are proud to have Deborah playing at our festival and hope that you all enjoy her set.
Stephen Cummings and his band also join us for 2009. Stephen has now released nineteen albums, consisting of fourteen studio albums, two ‘best of’ compilations, a live disc, an album of acoustic re-workings of his songs and a rarities collection. His fourth album, A New Kind of Blue, won an ARIA award for “best adult contemporary album” (1996’s “Escapist” was also nominated in the same category) and his eighth album, Falling Swinger, was included in Australian Rolling Stone’s list of “100 essential Australian albums”.
Nick Barker is an Australian singer songwriter
We love Rebecca Barnard at Between the Bays and we know you do too. Rebecca performed at last year’s festival and included kids from the crowd as dancers on stage during her set. Rebecca is a friendly and very talented performer that we are proud to have back in 2009.
We also have asked Lisa Miller back to perform at Between the Bays. Lisa Miller has what every singer strives for - a voice of her own. She does more than just deliver words and a tuneful melody; she gives her songs a colour and a pathos that is utterly distinctive. In 2008 Morning In The Bowl Of Night was named in the shortlist for the prestigious Australian Music Prize, awarded to the best album of the previous year, as voted by a selected panel of critics, retailers and peers.
Watch out for Rebecca Barnard and Lisa Miller joining forces on stage together at Between the Bays in 2009!
And as if all of that is not enough, punters will also be treated to a a festival feast of gourmet food stalls offering a wide range of tastes and smells, and local wines including Barmah Park, Tuck’s Ridge, T’Gallant and The Red Hill Brewery to sip whilst lying back on the lawn enjoying the festival sights and sounds.
Food stalls will include the Flying Calamari Brothers, The Moroccan Spice Kitchen, Wood Fired Pizzas, Specialty Cheese Platters, Gourmet Sausage Stall, Mango Licks and even a Lolly Shop for the kids! Speaking of KIDS…they are entertained all day for FREE!! Kids’ activities include rides; art activities, face painting and even tattoos (spray on…).
Set amongst the trees on 37 beautiful rural acres, Between the Bays Music Festival offers the whole family an enjoyable and inexpensive day out.
