BIG SOUND 2009 Music Industry Summit and Showcase

Filed under: General — site admin @ 7:10 pm

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
9 – 11 September 2009
BIG SOUND program and even more speakers unveiled; Bob Evans among next wave of showcase artists announced

The most important issues facing artists and the music industry today will be under the spotlight this September with Brisbane’s BIG SOUND Music Industry Summit unveiling a packed conference program.

Covering everything from Sync: The New Pot of Gold? to Blogging, Twittering & Online Publishing: Time Wasting or Tastemaking? the 2009 BIG SOUND program is the most diverse yet and reflects an industry undergoing unprecedented change.

With the complete program online now at www.bigsound.org.au, other key panels and seminars include: It’s All About the Music: What is a “hit” and What makes one?; Asia: Separating Opportunity from Red Herrings; and I Write the Songs: Publishers, Songwriters and Careers in Songwriting.

Dotted among the program of panels and seminars will also be daily keynote addresses from some of the brightest and most influential minds in the music business including respected US artist and indie music icon Robert Schneider (The Apples in Stereo), legendary songwriter and producer Van Dyke Parks, and one of Australia’s most famous music identities Glenn Wheatley.

The program launch has also lifted the lid on yet another batch of speakers making their way to BIG SOUND this year. They include Tobin Watkinson (MySpace/Interscope Records USA), Vodafone’s Worldwide Head of Music Morgan Donoghue (UK), Scott Cresto from Chrysalis Music Publishing (USA), and the Winterman & Goldstein management team of Andy Cassell, Andy Kelly and Pete Lusty (AUS).

BIG SOUND Executive Programmer Stephen Green says the event will also feature a number of Masterclasses providing intensive sessions on key issues including publishing, US radio, and touring both nationally and abroad.

“These Masterclasses will be limited to no more than 25 people to make sure those who attend walk away with a much clearer picture of the issue under discussion,” he says.

Given space is limited, those wanting to attend these Masterclasses will need to register well in advance via the BIG SOUND website, www.bigsound.org.au.

The news comes as BIG SOUND takes the wraps off yet another batch of world-class artists set to showcase at the September event. They include:

Bob Evans (WA), Old Man River (NSW), DZ (QLD), Elke (QLD), Hunz (QLD), Smashproof (NZ), Sola Rasa (NZ), The Optimen (QLD), Cabins (NSW), Super Massive (NSW), and Washington (QLD).

With still more to be unveiled, they join an impressive list of showcase acts already announce, including Robert Schneider (The Apples in Stereo), The Toxic Airborne Event (USA) The Middle East (QLD), Philadelphia Grand Jury (NSW), Hungry Kids of Hungary (QLD), The Devoted Few (NSW), Charles Jenkins (VIC), Cloud Control (NSW), and The Boat People (QLD) and a whole lot more.

One Australian act will also have the chance to showcase at the event through national radio Triple J’s Unearthed initiative – full details of this rare opportunity will be announced soon.

To be held across no less than six Fortitude Valley venues on September 9 and 10, the showcases will be open to the public, giving BIG SOUND a true urban festival atmosphere. Single showcase, evening or entire festival passes will be available soon.

Full ticketing details are online now at www.bigsound.org.au

Now in it’s eighth year, BIG SOUND has grown to become the biggest annual music gathering of its type in Australia. Run across three days and nights, you can meet, talk and listen to the brightest lights in the international music industry.

Registration for BIG SOUND is now open at a special reduced rate, which expires July 31.
