Braemar at South Coast Folk Club, South Australia
South Coast Folk Club’s final concert for 2007 features popular Scottish/Irish from Melbourne, Braemar and ex-Liverpool Spinner, Mick Groves. This Thursday 29th November at the Port Noarlunga RSL, Esplanade, Port Noarlunga. Admission to SCFC concerts is free (as long as you buy a $5 raffle ticket) - concert starts at 8pm but it’s a good idea to be early if you want a good seat!
BRAEMAR - were a big hit at this year’s Kapunda Festival and are making a return visit to play at the Celtica Festival at Port Adelaide, so we’ve grabbed the opportunity to get them down to the South Coast Folk club while they are back in town! Originating from the Victorian pipe band community these lads sing songs in the Irish and Scottish celtic tradition and their style is unashamedly inspired by the likes of the Corries and the Dubliners.
There’s nothing delicate about these lads - they sing songs with passion and commitment, songs like “Rose of Allendale”, “Jock of Hazeldean”, “Leezy Lindsay” “Massacre of Glencoe”, “Wild Mountain Thyme”, “Flower of Scotland”
- to mention a few.
MICK GROVES (former Liverpool Spinner) - The Spinners were a world famous folk group that were particularly popular in the 60’s and 70’s (even having their own UK TV show). Mick is now a solo artist living and colaborating with local musicians in the South West of England. However, he still likes to get together with his old Spinner friends as often as possible and is visiting Cliff Hall, another former Spinner living in the southern region not far from the Folk Club. Despite the crawl of time Mick remains an active and popular artist both locally and internationally.
In 2005 Mick released a well received album of songs by Ewan MacColl (Father of Kirsty) - the album will be available at the concert.
