Satellite Lounge Opens with Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks Aug 2016

Sat 6th August 8.40pm
Rosw Wilson & The Peaceniks.
Welcome to the Satellite Lounge
Beaming live entertainment into your suburb.

Once upon a time, every Melbourne suburb had a hotel with live music. It was a way of life: you watched Countdown, listened to the radio, and headed off to the pub with your friends to see Australia’s best bands. Live music has always been one of life’s great pleasures, with the exhilaration of the crowd dancing and singing along.

Times have changed, and you now have to go into the city (mostly) to get your fix of live music. It’s not just a thing you can do on a whim, with taxi fares and parking costs adding up very quickly, not to mention standing up for hours trying to get a decent viewing position.

Well now you have another choice … and it’s much closer to home.
The Satellite Lounge is opening at the Wheelers Hill Hotel in August. It’s a venue with a long history of live entertainment and it’s easy to get to, with plenty of free parking. Just a short drive from both the Eastlink and Monash Freeway exits, The Satellite Lounge sits right on the corner of Jells & Ferntree Gully Roads, featuring a large outdoor terrace with views of the Dandenong Ranges and promising patrons an experience above and beyond the expectations of normal “pub” style entertainment.

Industry stalwarts Mark Burchett (Flying Saucer Club) and Neil Wedd (Thornbury Theatre) will be programming the entertainment. Having many years of experience in running venues and promoting live music, Mark and Neil know what makes a great night out. The Satellite Lounge will offer an exciting and diverse program of live entertainment playing host to a wide variety of music including high profile local and international artists, the best up and coming acts as well as outstanding tribute shows.

Adjacent to The Satellite Lounge is the main Wheelers Hill Hotel complex, where the bistro will offer 10% discount to Satellite patrons seeking pre-gig dining. On offer are a superb variety of food styles, with craft beers and wines, fostering an atmosphere of old school sophistication.

Lloyd Spiegel Solo Tour and Signature Guitar Giveaway

Filed under: acoustic music, contemporary music, CD Launches, Gigs, Tours — site admin @ 4:38 pm

Lloyd Spiegel Solo Tour and Signature Guitar Giveaway
After a wildly successful year in 2015 on the back of his award-winning ‘Double Live Set’ album, Aussie acoustic blues master Lloyd Spiegel is headed back on the road in June/July for his first solo tour in 7 years.
This tour celebrates the launch of Spiegel’s new Cole Clark signature model guitar - an instrument designed with these new solo shows in mind. Spiegel has worked alongside Cole Clark Guitars for the past 15 years and has had a hand in every advancement in technology and design at the company in that time. Says Lloyd: “I received the honour of my first signature guitar in 2012. It served me well, but now that I’m returning to solo performing I needed something different to evolve with.

The 2016 LS signature model is built with Australian Blackwood top, back and sides. The extremely hard top was picked to suit my aggressive, hard hitting style and withstand the tour schedule I keep.”
Thanks to the good people at Cole Clark, audience members attending shows on the tour will have the opportunity to win Lloyd’s signature guitar (RRP $3299) fresh out of the workshop.

Deborah Conway Gasometer July 10th 2016

Filed under: acoustic music, contemporary music, rock music, Gigs, General — site admin @ 4:29 pm

Leaps and Bounds Music Festival’s Living
Legend series honours Deborah Conway at
the Gasometer on July 10
Through and through, Deborah Conway is undeniably a Melbourne musician.
Reaching her musical maturity as punk raged around her, Conway’s effortless
musicality saw her song-writing and instrumental prowess recognised early in
The Benders. Her lawyer Father was so concerned with his daughter rubbing
shoulders with the pilled up, reactionary punks and blank-faced new wavers of
the day that he promptly packed her off to a psychiatrist.
But history shows it was to no avail. The music bug had bitten Conway hard –
it’s never gone away. Conway has rubbed shoulders with Australian music
royalty, ever since. And it’s gladly and deservedly rubbed shoulders right back.
Before her nationally recognised solo success, Conway fronted the chart-shaking
Do Re Mi, a band she formed with Helen Carter and Stephen Phillip in Sydney,
in 1981. Do Re Mi are still best-remembered for 1985’s number five ARIA chart
hit Man Overboard, a bass-driven room shaker that announced Conway’s
powerhouse vocals and somewhat undeniable charisma to the nation’s living
rooms. In the mid 80s Conway also supplied
vocals for actor Tracy Mann who fronted the screen band, The Takeaways in the
ABC TV series Sweet and Sour.
After Do Re Me split in 1988, Conway trod various boards in Melbourne pubs
with the acoustic-based Drawcards (a team of champions containing Vika and
Linda Bull, Stephen Cummings, Tim Finn and the late Peter Jones and Ross
Hannaford) and the pub-rocking Rose Amongst Thorns (also comprising
several Drawcards members).

Rory Ellis Rah Rah Tour

Filed under: roots music, acoustic music, CD Launches, Gigs, Tours — site admin @ 3:51 pm

Master Australian songwriter Rory Ellis will hit the road this June to welcome his new 5-track release ‘Rah Rah’ into the world.
An underground hero in alt-country and Americana circles, Ellis has released seven independent albums to date and is a veteran of the hard road of tough trails across Australia, The UK and Europe. ‘Rah Rah’ is classic Rory Ellis and brings magically crafted lyrics, taking the listener to places of sensuality, life awakenings and the dark side.
Rory has performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, alongside Richie Havens, Robert Cray, Canned Heat, Seth Lakeman, and many others. Seven acclaimed albums, seven countries of extensive touring, and hundreds of festivals later, Rory is looking forward to concreting his return to his homeland and catching up with his Aussie fans on the road.
The Rah Rah Tour will take in the East Coast including Tasmania.
“His is one of the most distinctive voices in Australian folk and country music, rich and full and emotive.”
Jeff Glorfeld: The Melbourne Age, 2015

“Rory Ellis is one of those singer/songwriters, like Leonard Cohen, who makes the hairs on your arms stand up by simply opening his mouth and uttering a few throaty words.”
Brett Callwood: Acoustic Magazine UK

“Rory Ellis is one of the great storytellers on the Australian roots scene. A big man with a huge voice, with a trove of outstanding material at his disposal, he immerses us into his world… His huge, deep voice is a remarkable instrument of rich and raw emotion. It is that voice, the absolute quality of the musicianship and incomparable song writing talent that really sets him apart as an artist.”
Mick Griffin: Live Review, Bendigo Weekly
