January at The Butterfly Club

Filed under: cabaret, Festivals & Major Events — site admin @ 7:48 am

Close your eyes and imagine a two-storey Victorian house crammed full of dolls, memorabilia and a mix of Asian, European and home-grown kitsch, festooned with fairy lights and furnished with comfortable lounge seating, period pieces and a few things naughty and delightful … then add two well-stocked bars, three lounges, and a covered courtyard with a garden bordering on the bizarre. Finally, throw in a range of shows quirky and eclectic enough to match our decor, and you have arrived at Midsumma’s craziest performance hub. Now, open your eyes and come see for yourself!

Shows include the amazing Jane Kelson in WONKY EARS; the award-winning Yana Alana in her only full-length show in the festival, BITE ME; a Sydney Mardi Gras Theatre Project Initiative called LAY DOWN & LOVE ME AGAIN; and The Australian Ballet’s sexiest dancers, Kevin Jackson and Vivienne Wong, who will enter the world of burlesque as part of Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School.

December at The Butterfly Club

Dane Shedden in I’VE GOT A STORY TO TELL, BUT NOBODY WANTS TO LISTEN!

When you are a child, stories are about people from far off places who triumph over evil and live happily ever after. Would you be wrong in thinking that this is exactly how the world would be?

Come on a magical adventure of deluded idealistic youth. Watch as the spell is broken on our naive adventurer as he battles the feared monsters, reality and acceptance. Add a dash of humour and cheek, a touch of sentiment and compassion and top it off with an extremely generous amount of enthusiasm. The perfect potion for an entertaining night of cabaret.

Dates: Thursday 29 to Sunday 2 December
Times: 7.00 pm Thurs – Sat / 6.00 pm Sunday
Ticket price: $20
Bookings: www.thebutterflyclub.com
Duration: one hour approx
