The Melbourne premiere of Picasso and His Dog, by award-winning independent company Lemony S Puppet Theatre, will warm the hearts of children and their families these winter school holidays, with a gorgeous mix of live art-making, puppetry and magic realism.
Picasso and His Dog is inspired by the remarkable true story of the great 20th Century artist Pablo Picasso and his artistic muse Lump. One fine spring morning in 1957, Lump the sausage dog arrived at Picasso’s villa, looked into the deep, brown eyes of the artist and decided he was home.
Telling the story of a man and his dog, their deep love and the art their friendship inspired, Picasso and His Dog is a visually stunning and deeply moving celebration of what it is to create and to be creative as well as the extraordinary bond between dogs and their humans.
Produced for children 4+ and their families, Picasso and His Dog introduces Lump, an elongated sausage dog to the Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre stage from 8 – 10 July. Budding puppeteers can enjoy a free participatory puppetry making activity in the foyer after each performance.
Picasso and His Dog is presented by Darebin Arts Loud Mouth - a City of Darebin Arts program that presents a year round program for children and families of exciting, innovative and participatory theatre from around Australia.
Lemony S Puppet Theatre is the coming together of two widely respected and highly skilled puppet theatre makers, Sarah Kriegler and Jacob Williams.
