The National Gallery of Victoria today opened a new dedicated children’s gallery at Federation Square. NGV Kids corner is a space
where children and their families can enjoy creative installations and activities designed just for them.
Frances Lindsay, NGV Deputy Director said NGV Kids corner provides an enriching and magical place for children to engage with real art works in an educational and entertaining setting.
NGV Kids corner exhibits selected art works from across the NGV Collection, with the first display
focusing on a video work by Japanese artist Hiraki Sawa, Going Places Sitting Down. The display will
change every six months.
Made within the intimate world of his own apartment, Hiraki Sawa’s enchanting video work shows
various domestic scenes animated by the appearance of an antique rocking horse, whose rhythmic
movements slowly and purposefully propel him through the space.

Not all is lost when you lose your best friend. Even with Rodney missing, the show must go on!
John Johnson and Rodney – an African Elephant - ran away from the circus at a young age. Ever since, they have enchanted audiences performing their tricks on the streets, but with 11,564 kilograms of the act missing how will the show continue?
This buoyant, interactive physical comedy will delight young and old alike.
Together you will appreciate that the world is best seen through the innocent eyes of a child.
See John triumph and finish his performance with the memory of his best friend spurring him on.
