FLIPSIDE CIRCUS PRESENTS TALK 2 ME
AT THE BRISBANE POWERHOUSE

Parents can relax – their children no longer need to run away and join the circus. They can stay right at home and join the Flipside Circus.

Flipside Circus, Brisbane’s leading youth circus is open to all children. It began in a park in 1998 as a small gathering of children and a circus trainer. Seven years, a venue change, hundreds of workshops, an army of volunteers, and 250 children later they are about to perform their third professional show at the Brisbane Powerhouse during the September school holidays.

Nine months in the making, Talk 2 Me, stars more than 30 children, aged eight to 18 who have devised and created the show themselves with the support of Head Trainer Kristy Seymour and Artistic Director Tony Rooke, Australia’s leading Circus Director.

Talk 2 Me is a story of communication, or should we say miscommunication, between children and their parents – who are often speaking the same language, but perhaps hearing something completely different!

It tackles the issue of communication with humour and youthful physicality through spectacular circus stunts, dazzling acts of tumbling and acrobatics plus glittering aerial acts and amazing fire juggling.

Tony Rooke is proud to present Talk 2 Me which he says is an amazing circus show for both kids and adults.

“It is the freshest, most innovative youth circus show to be presented in Brisbane. It is wonderfully empowering for kids and provides them with a wealth of experience and knowledge.”

One of the children performing in the show is part of Circus Ab.Original a young Goori arts initiative program funded by CAA-Oxfam within Flipside Circus.

Under this program Flipside Circus teach classes to 35 young people from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community School in Acacia Ridge and provides a bursary fund for six young indigenous people to attend Flipside’s regular circus program.

Circus Ab.Original develops opportunities for young Indigenous people to participate in circus activities and experience achievement. The children develop strength, confidence, poise, and respect for their bodies and are encouraged to work collaboratively rather than competitively.

Traditionally the circus has been a place of inclusion and as such a special place for everyone – refining the unique gift that each child brings through a craft that relies on trust, teamwork, discipline, creativity and a little magic.

To experience some of this magic come and see Flipside Circus perform at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

We can’t guarantee how relaxed parents will be when they sit back to watch the children of Flipside “playing with fire”. Kids – do not try what you are about to see at home!
