A strangely inspirational documentary, this follows the at-times comedic misadventures of manically driven Milwaukee film-maker Mark Borchardt, as he struggles against bad planning, financial hardship and an amateur cast and crew, to complete his independent horror film ‘Coven’. A must-see.

Tuesday 9 th February MAKE IT UP CLUB The Make It Up Club is committed to nurturing, presenting and promoting avant-garde improvised music and sound performance of the highest conceptual and performative standards, regardless of idiom, genre, or instrumentation. Whilst traditional forms of avant-garde improvisation are welcomed, MIUC programming policy gives priority to projects which challenge the boundaries of current musical trends and which are predominantly, though not exclusively, improvisational in nature.

After many a moon in hibernation, they will be performing a special set, switching between classic Firewitch motifs and material from their latest incarnation as Inappropriate Tough Guy Behaviour. Support comes from the free-form phych duo Breathing Shrine, neanderthalic noise-core sect Occult Blood, plus a special appearance by mystery act from the land of the rising sun. Jarmusch’s second feature is a deadpan comedy that sealed his reputation as one of the brightest stars in independent cinema. Jazz musician John Lurie and former Sonic Youth drummer Richard Edson play two ‘hipsters’ whose monotonous habits are interrupted by the arrival of a 16 year old cousin from Hungary. The suitably vacant monochrome cinematography is by Tom DiCillo

Hanzel Und Gretyl World Fukken Tour 2009
Hanzel Und Gretyl have been leading lights of the industrial
underground since 1993, combining the aggressive elements of the New
York hardcore electronic sound that spawned Industrial Strength
records with that gritty German sound which inspired bands like
Rammstein and KMFDM. Original members since the beginning are the
demonic duo of guitarists and vocalists Kaiser Von Loopy and Vas
Kallas and they are joined by drummer Jordan Marchini.
Born from the ashes of the American industrial dance sound, and with
their early lineup including Revolting Cocks member Mark Baker,
Hanzel Und Gretyl have remained true to the sound of industrial
aggression since the early nineties, and have released eight studio
albums to great success. Their 2003 album ‘Uber Alles’ receiving a 4
star review in Kerrang magazine, and 2004’s ‘Scheissmessiah’ being
hailed by Revolver Magazine as one of the essential industrial albums.

A highly unlikely collaboration between Nicolas Roeg, Roald Dahl and Jim Henson (who provides the amazing special effects), results in a fascinating adaptation of Dahl’s story of a grandmother and grandson who travel to a resort hotel, only to find it infested with a coven of witches (led by a flamboyantly wicked Anjelica Huston), who have sinister plans for the children of England.
