Satellite Lounge Opens with Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks Aug 2016

Sat 6th August 8.40pm
Rosw Wilson & The Peaceniks.
Welcome to the Satellite Lounge
Beaming live entertainment into your suburb.

Once upon a time, every Melbourne suburb had a hotel with live music. It was a way of life: you watched Countdown, listened to the radio, and headed off to the pub with your friends to see Australia’s best bands. Live music has always been one of life’s great pleasures, with the exhilaration of the crowd dancing and singing along.

Times have changed, and you now have to go into the city (mostly) to get your fix of live music. It’s not just a thing you can do on a whim, with taxi fares and parking costs adding up very quickly, not to mention standing up for hours trying to get a decent viewing position.

Well now you have another choice … and it’s much closer to home.
The Satellite Lounge is opening at the Wheelers Hill Hotel in August. It’s a venue with a long history of live entertainment and it’s easy to get to, with plenty of free parking. Just a short drive from both the Eastlink and Monash Freeway exits, The Satellite Lounge sits right on the corner of Jells & Ferntree Gully Roads, featuring a large outdoor terrace with views of the Dandenong Ranges and promising patrons an experience above and beyond the expectations of normal “pub” style entertainment.

Industry stalwarts Mark Burchett (Flying Saucer Club) and Neil Wedd (Thornbury Theatre) will be programming the entertainment. Having many years of experience in running venues and promoting live music, Mark and Neil know what makes a great night out. The Satellite Lounge will offer an exciting and diverse program of live entertainment playing host to a wide variety of music including high profile local and international artists, the best up and coming acts as well as outstanding tribute shows.

Adjacent to The Satellite Lounge is the main Wheelers Hill Hotel complex, where the bistro will offer 10% discount to Satellite patrons seeking pre-gig dining. On offer are a superb variety of food styles, with craft beers and wines, fostering an atmosphere of old school sophistication.

Eagle And The Wolf-Harry Hookey & Grizzlee Train

Eagle And The Wolf announce debut Sydney headline show at Newtown Social Club
Special Guests: Harry Hookey & Grizzlee Train
Singer-songwriter Sarah Humphreys and country-blues musician Kris Morris met and decided to make a life and music together as Eagle And The Wolf. Together they are truly magical.
Their debut single ‘Mama, Son and The Holy Ghost’ has had a huge response. After premiering on Triple J’s Roots ’N’ All it was also playlisted on Double J and reached Number 1 on the Amrap Chart.

Their self titled album, ‘Eagle & The Wolf’, a collection of ten songs co-produced by the duo alongside Syd Green (Matt Tonks, Dirty Lucy, Iota) in an old farm house in the Southern Highlands is as raw and heartfelt as it gets and the performances are stunning. Released in March the album has received rave reviews from Rhythms Magazine, Rolling Stone and Sydney Morning Herald to name but a few.

Now Eagle & The Wolf take to the stage with a full band for their very first Sydney headline show with Harry Hookey and Grizzlee Train along for the ride.
Hookey will be joining Eagle and The Wolf after a year of relentless gigging that has seen him playing shows and festivals from one end of Australia to the other (literally), throughout Europe and Cuba! His debut album ‘Misdiagnosed’ was nominated for an ARIA for Best Blues & Roots album and he won the International Songwriter award for the title track in 2014. He recently supported the UK’s Jamie Lawson on a national tour and is in the studio recording his 2nd album, due out later in 2016.

A romping stomping roots duo, Grizzlee Train take the sound of vintage blues and drench it with filthy modern guitar licks and pulsating percussion. They have spent much of the last year touring nationally and internationally as part of the Kasey Chambers band. Grizzlee Train’s debut EP ‘Come Back Around’ was released in January 2015 to a wave of positive reviews and continues to be frequently spun on national radio all over the country. A truly dynamic duo, they blend an old school core with sharp new-age kicks - a stripped back firing of raw energy and honest music.

Where: Newtown Social Club, 387 King St, Newtown Ph (02) 9550 3974

No Bagpipes 7th July - Leaps and Bounds Festival

Filed under: country music, roots music, rock music, CD Launches, Gigs, General — site admin @ 3:55 pm

LEAPS AND BOUNDS MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS
NO BAGPIPES – THURSDAY, 7TH JULY AT
GASOMETER!
DOUBLE CD LAUNCH WITH DUNCAN PHILLIPS AND
THE LONG STAND AND STEVE BOYD’S RUM REVERIE!
Tix at ww.thegasometerhotel.com.au
$10 +BF/$12 On Door Doors 8pm
Originally from Shetland, pop-infused alt-country rocker Duncan Phillips and his band The Long Stand join forces with Scottish born
Australian raised blues/soul man Steve Boyd and The Rum Reverie to launch their new albums at a special one off gig dubbed “No
Bagpipes!” on Thursday 7th of July!

Born into a musical family, Duncan arrived in Australia in 2010. Afteropening for a sold out auditorium show with Steve Earle back home
he knew he needed to build a music career. Join him on a journey from whisky soaked lullabies to boot stomping anthems as he
plays his debut album “The Wilderness” for the first time live at Gasometer.
Steve Boyd’s reputation precedes him. He has a rich history on the festival circuit and has shared stages with Bob Dylan and Ray
Charles in the 90’s. After a long hiatus, he’s back with The RumReverie and a new album with a punk brain, a gospel soul, a blues
heart and sly hints of jazz trickling through its veins, “Healers And Howlers.”
Two great bands. Guitars. Horns. Scotch Whisky at the bar. But No Bagpipes!
