ATTENTION ALL LIVE MUSIC LOVERS…NOW IS THE TIME TO SAVE LIVE AUSTRALIA’S MUSIC (S.L.A.M.)
S.L.A.M. (Save Live Australia’s Music) is calling on Victoria’s music community to raise your voice and protest the plight of our local music scene!!
The recent closure of The Tote and the announcement of The Arthouse’s intention to do the same is causing increasing alarm amongst Victoria’s music scene and wider music community. These closures, a result of the destructive impact caused by Liquor Licensing Victoria’s decision to treat live music venues as high-risk, penalising them with higher fees and greater costs for required security, is now posing a huge threat to more of the states venues and in turn the livelihood of the local music community. In a reaction to the lack of response from the government to amend these regulations, S.L.A.M. (Save Live Australia’s Music) have announced a Public Rally to be held on Tuesday 23rd February commencing at 4pm in the city. (proposed assembly point, the State Library – check website for the details).

Tote Hotel
It’s last drinks at the Tote. This weekend.
I know it’s sudden. I didn’t plan it to be like that.
I can’t afford to keep fighting Liquor Licensing. The “high risk” conditions they have placed on the Tote’s license make it impossible to trade profitably. I can’t afford the new “high risk” fees they have imposed. I can’t afford to keep fighting them at VCAT. I can’t renegotiate a lease in this environment.
So, come into the Tote this weekend to say farewell to the sad staff and to feel the sticky carpet for the last time.
I don’t believe the Tote is a “high risk” venue, in the same category as the nightclubs that make the news for all the wrong reasons. Despite being on a rough little corner of Collingwood, the Tote has had very, very few incidents. As a local police officer once said, “The Tote’s the quietest pub in the area.” (!).

Rock Band from Stoke, England, Chosen for New Movie
A relatively unknown rock band from Staffordshire, England, has been chosen to produce the music for a forthcoming movie entitled, The Stone.
The band, No Redemption, is the home of musicians, James Earnshaw and Gemma Simpson who recently wrote and performed the music for the Robin Hood documentary set for release in April 2010 by Reality Films and Warner Bros. in the States (Robin Hood: The Truth Behind Hollywood’s Most Filmed Legend). The writer and director of the documentary, Philip Gardiner, was so taken with the music that he asked them to write the music for a movie he is directing and appointed James Earnshaw as musical director.
