Satellite Lounge Gig List ED KUEPPER

In a real coup for the Satellite Lounge Ed Kuepper will be performing his Solo and By Request show on Sunday January 15. Ed Kuepper is a giant in Australian music. From founding The Saints, to creating the Laughing Clowns, having a solo career stretching over 25 years as well as playing with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Ed is a towering figure in the music scene and his shows are never less than rivetting. Tickets go on sale Friday October 21 at 9.00am.

Last weekend marked the first time we hosted Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon events. All went well with big crowds for all shows. The atmosphere on Sunday was wonderful, the ability to see a show in the afternoon and still be good for work on Monday was appreciated by the audience.

This week sees Nick Barker and the Monkey Men playing the Rolling Stones hits and great album tracks on Friday night. Along with The Monkey Men you can see Shannon Bourne, one of Melbourne’s greatest guitarists. Tickets are selling fast!
Mikelangelo is one of Australia’s most stylish performers. On Saturday night he will bring the songs of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits alive.

We have Sun Rising - The Songs that made Memphis on Saturday October 29. Recreating the era, playing songs from Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and more, you will be singing and jiving away.

Ding Dong - 4 DJ’s

Ding Dong is proud as hell to present the return gigs of one of Melbourne’s most loved DJ’s in 4 special performances that add up to a mini residency of sorts.

The kid known as Dexter is about as respected as it gets in parts all over the world, ever since putting himself on the map by being Australia’s acknowledged DJ master as 4 time Australian champ and coming 2nd in the world DJ championships, only being knocked out of first place by DJ Craze.

It was no surprise those savvy cats Bobby Dazzler scooped him up to join their band The Avalanches and take the ride with them to international superstardom. He played a significant role in the sound of their album Since I Left You which has become one of the most loved Australian albums of all time.

It was a bumpy ride but one the world was a better place for and after eventually going back out on his own Dexter continued on his way knocking people’s brains out with the awe inspiring brilliance of his DJ sets.

Pretty much anybody living in Melbourne into class DJing would have come across him at some point and enjoyed the vibe that happens when Dexter spins.

After a little hiatus he’s back and over 4 nights in August you get the chance to come hang and enjoy where Dexter is at right now, fresh and ready to rock and kick some ass xxxxx xxxxx’s
Fridays 5,12,19 & 26 August.

KAREN CONRAD PUBLICITY FIGHTS GENDER PAY GAP

Melbourne based publicist and committed feminist Karen Conrad has decided to put her money where her mouth is and fix the gender pay gap for women who need PR in Australia.
Karen is offering *SHE* RATES for female artists and artisans - 20% off new publicity campaigns from now until January 30th for new female-driven arts, fashion, theatre and music pr campaigns.
“Women have to live in the same world that men live in and pay the same prices men do for accommodation, basic essential services, food, drink, fun - everything - while earning nearly 20% less. I don’t think that’s fair.

“For this reason, I’m glad to offer to offer quality PR campaigns for women at 20% off my regular fees until January 30th. I have long been committed to the feminist cause and I think this is a practical way to help bands, artists, designers, producers, service providers who earn a female dollar make the most for it in terms of their PR and marketing,” says Karen.

The gender pay gap has hit a record high of 18.8 per cent according to Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures, prompting calls for the Federal Government to reverse the upward trend.

Men now earn almost $300 more dollars per week based on the average weekly earnings for full-time workers. The latest figures represent the biggest gender pay gap since the ABS began collecting the data in 1994.
All campaigns must be booked in between today and 30 January 2016, but you can advance book any project with an end date before 30 May 2016.
If you’re a woman with a new project to promote, book it in now on 0400 527 365 or email Karen@karenconradpublicity.com for *SHE* Rates.
Cheers
Karen

THE DRUNKEN POACHERS
Melbourne sextet The Gun Barrel Straights are set to release their first double a‐side single ‘She’s Moving Home’ / ‘Murder Blues’ at Bar Open, with supports from Goatpiss Gasoline (featuring Van Walker) and The Drunken Poachers. She’s Moving Home is an ode to small towns and the past that comes alive when you set foot back in the place after years away. It’s all wrapped up in a tasty country‐pop morsel with mandolin strut and sunset harmonies. Found somewhere on the shoulder of Highway 61, Murder Blues sends vibrations to the feet and bow‐legged shaking to the legs. Someone’s gotta die, but who’ll eat the lead?

HTML FLOWERS - CRUSHIN’ ON YOU EVERY MONDAY IN NOVEMBER AT THE EVELYN

Filed under: hip hop / rap music, Gigs — site admin @ 5:23 pm

Following the release of his internet classic love sonnet Crush On You, HTMLflowers will be taking over for a month long residency on Monday nights in November at the Evelyn, 351 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Doors 8PM. Tix available for $6 on the door or from oztix through http://www.evelynhotel.com.au.
Special guests for 3 November are Habits and Philippa Omega with guests for the remaining shows TBA.
With a musical catalogue that ranges from piercingly sincere and dark vignettes of his experience as a life threateningly ill youth to imagery heavy descriptions of the challenges of intimacy and mush-mouthed odes of gratitude to his tumblr fan base for helping him “make it”, Flowers’ sets are a special species within the melbourne hip hop scene. Drawing heavily on footwork, underground noise hop and asinine top 40 pop hits, the skeleton that holds together this strange body of work is the emphasis on rhythm and “vibe”.
His collaboration with Oscar Key Sung under the banner Brothers Hand Mirror has seen him share a stage with Le1f, Cakes Da Killa, Marnie Stern, Ghostpoet & more. Often gifting his listeners by compiling free zines to give away at shows containing his own illustrations alongside other graphic artists from around the world, Flowers’ maintains a hand made from-the-heart ethic in all of his endeavours. The intimacy he shares with his fan base is increased by the candid exploration of his illness, his creative process and his life on the whole through his popular tumblr website.
