Bar Open Gig Guide

Monday 8 th February
SCREEN SECT: American Movie (Chris Smith, 1999)
A strangely inspirational documentary, this follows the at-times comedic misadventures of manically driven Milwaukee film-maker Mark Borchardt, as he struggles against bad planning, financial hardship and an amateur cast and crew, to complete his independent horror film ‘Coven’. A must-see.

‘Page One’ is a rockin’ song co-written between Katie and her Captain’s guitarist Cameron Deyell and legendary Oz songsmith Don Walker (of Cold Chisel fame) – a song that Katie wrote as a wedding gift to fellow Captain’s keyboardist Stu Hunter and his partner.

Over the last two years Katie and ‘The Captains’ (Cameron Deyell – guitar, Stu Hunter – keys/bass, Declan Kelly – drums) have been slowly building a vessel of exciting new songs.

You’ve got to give credit to any guy who’s willing to attempt a Katy Perry cover – especially when the song is “I Kissed A Girl” and that guy happens to be a proud homosexual and from Israel. So hats off to IVRI LIDER (ISR), who will hopefully perform said cover at his show on Sunday 28th February. Don’t let the connection to the pop diva fool you though, Ivri’s music is melodic, powerful and from the heart. Tickets are now on sale.

Direct from Brooklyn New York, the ANTIBALAS AFROBEAT ORCHESTRA are heading to Oz for what will be their first down under. The band encompasses a massive 12 current members, which is why it’s no surprise that these boys sure do know how to raise afrobeat sounds to a spiritual plane. With a sound foundered by Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, the band is influenced by jazz, 70s psychedelic, funk, dub, and traditional drumming from Cuba and West Africa.
