Pure Pop Records in Barkly Street St Kilda Gigs

Raise The Roof for Pure Pop at Prince Bandroom Friday, 11 May From 6pm

Local hipsters and music afficinados will be familiar with Pure Pop Records in Barkly Street St Kilda and their famous beer garden gigs, which have regularly hosted local musical glitterati such as Conway Savage, Charles Jenkins & Tim Rogers, along with bands from all around Australia including The Gin Club, Halfway, Steve Kilbey and Kate Miller-Heidke amongst others. Their intimate stage has also hosted international artists including Barry Adamson, Academy Award winners The Swell Season, Charlie Parr and Dean & Britta (Luna/Galaxie 500) for over 6 years.

Pure Pop is possibly the only record store, cafe, live music venue in the world - and they have heaps of devoted local patrons to prove it. The beer is cold, the staff is friendly and the music is beyond awesome. However, in the recent past, noise restrictions and an early curfew were imposed and nary a drum kit has graced the stage at Pure Pop in quite sometime….

THE COMEDY FESTIVAL

Thursday 29 March – Sunday 22 April
(Showtime 7.30pm - no shows Monday or Tuesday)

ANDREW O’NEILL (UK)
(as seen on Good News Week, Spicks and Specks and the Melbourne International Comedy Gala 2010)

PONY are absolutely ecstatic to have one of the hottest comedy talents in the world, ANDREW O’NEILL, in our dirty little bar for the Melbourne International ComedyFestival.
2012 sees the return of occult comedian ANDREW O’NEILL. Over the past few years he has stormed the screens including appearances on Good News Week and Spicks and Specks. This year Andrew will be bringing his brand new show Alternative to Adelaide Fringe, Brisbane Comedy Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival, making it his biggest Australian tour yet.

“Hilarious, incredibly smart, quick as a whip” Adelaide Advertiser
“Absolutely hilarious, laughed with delight from start to finish” Neil Gaiman
“One of the funniest comedians on the circuit at the moment … hitting new heights of comedic brilliance” TimeOut
“He’s got a natural optimism and love of silliness that leaves you feeling remarkably positive … a winning blend of polemic and off-beat whimsy” The Guardian

Facts about Andrew O’Neill:
His fans include the comic book writer Alan Moore, who said “Andrew O’Neill is like comedy ball-lightning. Fast, electrifying, and even funnier than the misfortunes of others,” and the musician Amanda Palmer, for whom Andrew opened in London.
He is in a Victorian-themed punk band called The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing.
It was his Adelaide-born ex-girlfriend that encouraged him to try stand-up.

He is vegan.
He is absolutely, categorically NOT a goth.
On top of all the Australian television he has done (Spicks and Specks, Good News Week etc), he filmed a stand-up set for the most recent series of Stewart Lee’s TV show. You can check it out here.
He appeared alongside Steve Coogan in the sitcom Saxondale.

Last year he unwittingly swam in shark-infested water. And is still shaking…
Come check out one of his shows in the intimate setting of PONY

Hi
What a news day, Anchorman 2 is a go! There were a bunch of classic one liners in the first, so let us hope they don’t ruin the illusion!

Just announced: P.O.W. A huge ANZAC Day Eve (Tues 24 April) party featuring GENERIK and more! We’re being respectful to our ANZAC’s and have instilled a strict close time of 3am, so doors are opening early at 8pm! All tickets and other info can be found here.

Just announced: ONE NIGHT STAND on Friday 18 May. JAM XPRESS ft. SEANY B and POLYFONIK will be there with heaps more so what are you waiting for? Tickets are available now and you can RSVP to the facebook event here.

Tomorrow night (Friday 30 March) is YELAWOLF! We’re so excited, we’ve been youtubing videos of him all day and we especially love this clip of LETS ROLL ft. the amazing Travis Barker on drums! Don’t forget we have BRIGGS supporting! Tickets are flying out the door, so you’ve gotta be quick and grab yours here.

Saturday 31 March we’ll be getting a little glammed up because we’ve got LA LUCHA GLAMOUROSA featuring tough burlesque wrestlers and some live music too - ABBIE CARDWELL AND THE CHICANO ROCKERS and THE MEXICALI MAMMAS! We’re bringing in a wrestling ring, so this shiz is getting real! Pick up your tickets here.

We’ve got a busy week and it doesn’t stop with BLITZEN TRAPPER joining us next Tuesday 3rd April. They got rave reviews from their showcases at SXSW (11 of them!!) and BEAT MAGAZINE caught up with them to chat about their trip. There’s still a couple of signed tour posters up for grabs so be quick and grab your tickets here.

I think that’s enough to keep you all pretty busy over the next week! Also a reminder that YACHT CLUB DJS is selling fast and will sell out shortly. Get your tickets here so you won’t be disappointed by missing out.
