Peter ‘Phoebe’ Freestone talks Freddie Mercury

Filed under: performance art, Theatre, Gigs, General — site admin @ 7:52 pm

Peter Freestone
Thursday September 15
Thornbury Theatre
Celebrating what would have been the iconic singer’s 70th birthday, Peter ‘Phoebe’ Freestone – speaker, author, personal assistant and best friend to Freddie Mercury – will tour Australia in September 2016.
Presented by First Base Events, You’re My Best Friend: An Evening With Peter Freestone will be an intimate evening of personal stories, rock anecdotes, rare photos, unheard audio and audience Q&A covering the 12 years Peter spent living with and working for the Queen front man.
The pair, who met in 1979 whilst Peter was working in wardrobe for London’s Royal Ballet, formed an immediate friendship which saw Peter become Freddie’s personal assistant, a role he continued daily until the singer’s untimely death in 1991.
“I was Freddie’s chief cook and bottle washer, waiter, butler, secretary, cleaner and agony aunt. I travelled the world with him, acted as his bodyguard when needed and in the end, of course, I was one of his nurses.”

Song Contest – the Almost Eurovision Experience

Filed under: Comedy, Theatre — site admin @ 9:16 am

Song Contest – the Almost Eurovision Experience” is a glitzy comedic and loving tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest. It hits its target bang on, with eleven countries competing, a multitude of anxious contestants, a gushing hostess and all the quirkiness that both delights us and makes us cringe in a single breath.
The audience voting is authentic with the potential for a different winner every night (come a couple of times and you will see it’s not rigged.)
This show is safe to bring along your kids, friends, spouse and your sweetheart.

It’s just like being at the finals of Eurovision, which this year happens to be in Belarus’ capital city, Minsk.
All original songs – each one very “Eurovisiony” (yes that is a word.) This show has wind-blown hair power ballads, pretty glitter boy pop, soulful groove and all manner of patriotic foolishness. It’s all here. The songs are top shelf and sound just like something you have heard before on Eurovision, only different and a bit wrong.

When you come to the show you will get a free badge that designates which country you represent. Just go with it, get completely swept up in the utter foolishness, dress up, share drinks (which you can pre-order on the Song Contest App) and you’ll have a blast.
The competition is real but the rivalry is friendly and always with a nail-biting finish. So cheer on your adopted country, wave your flag and make some noise. If you sign up to be a Eurovisionary you can download the Song Contest App and get all the good deals.

Competing Countries: Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Italy, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland and Russia. And Norway, so eleven.

We invite you to be included in the party and visit us at www.songcontest-musical.com to become a member of our “Eurovisionary” team when you book your seats now, as in immediately.

Preview Performances: Friday April 1 to Wednesday April 6.
Opening Night: Thursday April 7 (limited tickets available for Eurovisionaries only)
Friday April 8 to Sunday May 1
Tuesday @ 7pm
Wednesday – Saturday @ 8pm
Saturday Matinee @ 2pm

Premium – $79.00

A Reserve Concession – $49.00
