The debut feature from playwright, screenwriter, director and heretical film theorist Mamet is a highly stylised glimpse into the ever-fascinating, hard-boiled world of the con artist. MONDAY 5 DEC
SCREEN SECT: STRAIGHT TO HELL
(Alex Cox, 1986)
Possibly the most expensive ‘home-movie’ ever made, in which the director of ‘Repo Man’ and ‘Sid & Nancy’ packs off to Spain with an all-rock-star cast (including The Pogues, Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, Dennis Hoper, Jim Jarmusch, Grace Jones and Courtney Love) to create a twisted blend of spaghetti western and heist movie. Feelin’ Fine - The Sunday Arvo Sessions

Having spent the last 4 months touring across Canada and the USA with Oka, Bobby Alu returned to Australia a few weeks ago just in time to celebrate his one year anniversary of playing live. Aptly, the venue for the occasion was The Island Vibe Festival on Stradbroke Island, where it all began for him 12 months ago. Having quite literally only just arrived back in the country, Bobby cut it pretty fine, making it to Straddie only two hours before he was due onstage.

Having also just showcased at the Australasian World Music Expo last week in Melbourne, Bobby is glad to be back in Australia for summer, as The Au Review said of his recent single ‘Take It Or Leave It’, “a great chilled, laid back reggae sound that is the perfect soundtrack for when the weather gets warmer”. In order to celebrate this and in keeping with the island flavoured, soul-reggae vibe he’s renowned for, Bobby has announced that forgoing the standard evening fair, he will be heading into the hot season with a string of ‘Sunday Arvo Sessions’. Entitled The ‘Feelin’ Fine Tour, the Sunday arvo sessions will also serve as the precursor to Bobby’s new single and accompanying national tour, to take place early next year.

New announcements

ALEX HALLAHAN & THE WOODLAND HUNTERS (album launch) with special guests
Sat 12 Nov 2011 8:30pm
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Alex Hallahan’s new album ‘Human Veins’, superbly produced by Craig Pilkington (Gurrumul, Mick Thomas, The Black Eyed Susans), is abundantly human in content, that’s apparent right from the opening track ‘Orbiting’, which launches the album without hesitation. ‘Human Veins’ marks the first album where Alex is backed by his band The Woodland Hunters, who brilliantly create a textured landscape alongside Alex’s songwriting prowess - together they ignite in restless roots and rock ‘n roll. Generating a buzz for their intoxicating, groove-abundant live shows, Alex Hallahan & The Woodland Hunters create a rich and distinctive sound that sticks firmly to anyone who listens in… and it seems everyone’s listening in! They launch the new album at the East with some very special guests, get in quick - don’t miss out.

COERCE (single tour) with King Blacklevel Emabassy, Bowcaster and Palisades
Fri 9 Dec 2011 8:00pm
Coerce are heading back out for their final two headline shows of 2011 as part of the Prince Welfare single release, from their freshly ARIA nominated album Ethereal Surrogate Saviour. Following the album’s successful release and national headline tour, along with a string of international supports, Coerce are lifting another single off the album and officially releasing its visual accompaniment. From the brooding nature of its listen and lyrical content, the Prince Welfare track and video together create an abstract adaption of a drug fuelled suburban life. In conjunction with the release, Coerce are playing two home town launch shows in both Melbourne and Adelaide (they’re a bi-city band). With spine tingling guitar riffs, blasting drums and hypnotic vocals, Coerce have created a heavy post-hardcore sound that will lure you in and then blast your mind and your eardrums to new heights.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
BUSBY MAROU with Winter People and special guest: JUST ANNOUNCED - ON SALE NOW!
Fri 25 Nov 2011 8:30pm
To use a sporting analogy, Rockhampton’s favourite sons Busby Marou are heading into the business end of the season with the wind well and truly in their sails. After scoring high rotation slots from Triple J and NOVA, Busby Marou’s debut self-titled album reached #24 on the ARIA album charts and #5 on the Australian artist charts. The boys are also making their presence felt with strong showings in the nominations at the AIR, Deadly and Queensland Music Awards. After a stunning response from fans and media Busby Marou have had similarly good fortune in the live arena selling out their first ever headline tour in July and scoring coveted support slots with Birds Of Tokyo & Pete Murray and Dolly Parton. Busby Marou are excited to announce the “Underlying Message” tour sharing their biggest production yet through the month of November. Joining the band on the road are Sydney six-piece Winterpeople, who will be venturing into a number of unvisited territories for the first time off the back of their wildly successful debut single, “Wishingbone”.
