Coolangatta Hotel nominated for live music award

Filed under: Live Music Venues, General — site admin @ 9:19 am

After taking out the Best Entertainment Venue award for the Queensland Hotels Association in 2005, Coolangatta Hotel has again been recognised for it’s commitment to live music on the Gold Coast with a nomination just confirmed in the national awards for the Australian Hotels Association for the 2006 Awards for Excellence.

The judging criteria for the awards focuses on the variety and quality of entertainment, crowd control policies, venue promotion and the best in sound and lighting production.

Having played host to a wide array of some the finest Australian and international touring artists, the Coolangatta Hotel is unquestionably one of Queemsland’s most consistent live venues with in excess of 30,000 punters turning out to live shows in the last 12 months, helping to position the venue as a ‘must play’ stop on the national touring circuit with many dates now booked well into early 2007.

In addition to the live music component, the venue has also offered other entertainment options including Model Searches, Legends of Sport afternoons as well as hosting very popular Big Brother parties with the latest evictee’s.

The Coolangatta Hotel General Manager, Darryn Staff, said that this is a great result for the region.

“The entertainment team at the hotel have put in some hard work to try and give Gold Coasters as many entertainment choices as possible, and it is great to be recognised,”

“Receiving a nomination is fantastic news and cements the plans we have in place to bring the biggest and best bands to play on the Gold Coast.” he said.

Upcoming acts to perform soon at Coolangatta Hotel include Australian acts The Cat Empire, Little Birdy, Cog, Butterfingers and The Grates, plus international headliners Evermore, Less Than Jake and Matt Costa.
A ‘Legends of Sport’ afternoon with former Test cricketer Jeff Thomson is also locked in for early-November to co-incide with The Ashes.

Winners of the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) ‘2006 Awards for Excellence’ will be announced as part of a Black Tie Gala Evening attended by up to 1000 industry representatives from across the country, to be held at Hyatt Regency Hotel at Coolum on Thursday 5th October 2006.
