The bands first release came out over 30 years ago and they are the innovators of the ‘pop-punk’ sound. Radio Birdman, the most influential act to emerge from the heyday of late 70’s/early 80’s Australian underground rock, return in July with a brand new album - Zeno Beach - their first album of all new material in twenty five years. To celebrate the band will launch the CD at the Corner as part of a national tour. Joining Radio Birdman will be LA based garage-soul band The BellRays featuring the astonishing Lisa Kekula, a Grammy award winner for her work as a vocalist with both Basement Jaxx and the Crystal Method. Two of the Def Jux labels most prized artists Mr Lif and Cage visit Australia as part of the Def Jux 2006 Tour; the tour coincides with the release of Mr Lifs new album ‘Mo Mega’. The album sees the US cult hip hop figure Mr Lif back with an arsenal of new rhymes, showcasing his talent as an MC, poet and true life reporter. Initially garnering attention as leaders of the ‘90s slowcore movement, LOW went on to develop a sonic repertoire that incorporated pop, R&B and dissonant rock n’ roll. LOW (USA)
Initially garnering attention as leaders of the ‘90s slowcore movement, LOW went on to develop a sonic repertoire that incorporated pop, R&B and dissonant rock n’ roll. The band’s seventh full-length album, The Great Destroyer is fascinating in that it blends the band’s austere melodies (On the Edge Of, Silver Rider) with an aggressive guitar onslaught (Monkey, Everybody’s Song) and even melds LOW’s varied styles together into a single song (When I Go Deaf). Co-produced by LOW and David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), The Great Destroyer is a welcome surprise and, in the end, a rock n’ roll revelation. Doors: 8:30pm
