PopTarts is a night of female-fronted pop bands and female songwriters…get it? ..tarts …pop? PopTarts started from an idea by singer/songwriter Amanda Easton and has been running successfully in Sydney at the Empire Hotel, Annandale for over six years. Now, with the blessing of Amanda, PopTarts South will be promoting the same initiative on Thursday nights at Eurotrash Bar, Corrs Lane, Melbourne.

This weeks PopTarts comes with a distinct twang! The night starts with the soulful sounds of acoustic, steel and lap steel guitars of Ryder and is followed by Tamworth’s Bronnie Ware, who best described as a gentle blend of root, folk and country. Next up are twin sisters Rebecca and Rachael – better known as Jaxonville. And completing the evening is Port Fairy Folk Festival favourite, Cyndi Boste. PopTarts @ Eurotrash Bar, Corrs Lane, City. Doors at 8pm, entry $12.

Through her music, Bronnie celebrates both the strength and vulnerability of human nature, as well as sharing her deep love of nature.

RYDER

Ryder have been creating soulful acoustic music together for more than two years. Their sound is characterised by strong bluesy vocals, acoustic and slide guitar and Lap steel.
They create a soul-drenched blues sound that effortlessly crosses over to the eclectic roots genre with an earthiness and accessibility that attracts a diverse audience.

Ella Hooper of the rock band Killing Heidi says of lead vocalist Jade Myconos: ‘Jade is one of those secrets you want to let all your friends in on. She has always inspired me to sing with soul, as she does so effortlessly.’

Jades voice is alluring to say the least and her laid back acoustic style leaves any audience with the feeling they’ve seen music of true conviction and soul.
Greg Whitehead lends a hand on guitar with chunky electrified acoustic rhythms, dark bottle-neck slide, lap steel and vocals.
The rhythm section is perfectly rounded out with Mark Aird’s sympathetic stick and brush-work and the double and electric bass of young Melbourne stalwart, Trent McKenzie (Fourth Floor Collapse, Cat Walker & The Male Models & The Bentleys).
