DUMPED! The Musical playing at the Twelfth Night Theatre, Brisbane

Filed under: Comedy, Theatre — site admin @ 5:04 pm

Brace yourself Brisbane…you’re about to get Dumped!

Brace yourself Brisbane – next week you will be DUMPED! And there are four amazingly talented and funny women ready to help you commiserate and celebrate this most sacred of all upheavals …. DUMPED! The musical we’ve all been through will open next Thursday at the Twelfth Night Theatre in Bowen Hills.

Witten and directed by Australia’s incredibly talented *Emma Powell, the brains and boobs behind the hit 2008/09 musical BUSTING OUT!, DUMPED! The musical we’ve all been through will star the amazing Colette Mann, Jodie Gillies, Amanda Levy and new talent to Australian stage, Brisbane-raised Meghan O’Shea, in its world premiere season in Brisbane’s Twelfth Night Theatre from next week.

Being DUMPED….. this most gut-wrenching of all fates will be commiserated, substantiated, cultivated, dissected and in the end, celebrated through 22 great songs that channel the pain and humiliation of a million bust-ups putting humour right back into affairs of the heart.

“Life is too short to mourn over morons – male or female – and DUMPED discovers and celebrates this. Because as we all know, it’s better to have loved and lost than to live with a psycho for the rest of your life. This show is for anyone who’s ever been dumped, dumped someone, think they might get dumped, is planning on dumping someone or who just loves watching other people getting dumped …. and for everyone who loves a fun night out with tonnes of crazy stuff and ridiculous musical numbers to boot.”

Emma has promised to put it all out there for everyone to rake over, cry over and laugh over – every single (oops, sorry) fragile second! Welcome to Dumpees’ Anonymous – where life’s relationship “tragedies” are hilariously and hysterically dealt with. DUMPED! is the must-see, tear jerkingly funny comedy of 2010.

DUMPED The Musical will romance its way into Brisbane’s iconic Twelfth Night Theatre for a strictly limited season from next week. Great discounts are available for groups of ten or more. Guys welcome too – the bastards!

The all star Dumpees… (imagery and interviews etc all available as all talent are now in Brisbane)

Colette Mann sings, dances, acts and makes you laugh. She first appeared on stage in Kenn Brodziak’s production of Godspell in 1971, enjoying an amazing three year run. Twenty-four years on, she still receives fan mail from all over the world for her role as Doreen Burns in Prisoner. Since then she has appeared in countless stage productions, reported for A Current Affair, broadcast on radio, walked the Kadoka Trail and written a column in New Idea. Recent shows include: Mum’s the Word II, a spoof on bringing up teenagers; Urinetown: the Musical; Shirley in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the Musical; The Vagina Monologues (solo); and in 2005 she worked for Opera Australia for the first time in HMS Pinafore, starring opposite Anthony Warlow and David Hobson. She has also authored two books, It’s a Mann’s World, and more recently, Give Me a Break , co-written with her two sons, Sam and Charlie.

Jodie Gillies recently wowed critiques in Menopause The Musical. Her previous credits include Pirates of Penzance, Camelot, Company for STC, Aldonza in Man of LaMancha, Florence in Chess, Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Guilietta and Rose in Aspects of Love, the original Australian Eponine in Les Miserables, Mum’s The Word, Love Lemmings, King of Country, and STC’s Summer Rain. Internationally, She has played Grizabella in Cats, and her one-woman show - The Other Woman. Jodie’s recordings are Once in a Blue Moon, Stairways to Heaven, and her own successful self-titled cd.

Amanda Levy has starred on the small screen, the big screen and the stage, and various spotlights in between. On the small screen the award-winning actress has acted in Satisfaction, Blue Heelers, Stingers, Neighbours and Prank Patrol. Film credits include the AFI-nominated The Not So Great Eugene Green by Michael Hill and The Matchmaker by 2008 Tropfest winner Michelle Lehman. She has starred in Eurobeat Korea, Virgins Melbourne and New York (Green Room Award nomination Best Female Artist in a Leading Role), The Last Five Years, Prodigal (Green Room Award nomination Best Female Artist in a Featured Role), The Journey Girl (Green Room Award nomination Best Female Artist in a Leading Role), The 21st Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Sunset Boulevard, They’re Playing Our Song, and Crusade. Theatre credits include This Is Our Youth, A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Shrinking Ledge, The Effie Fellows Story and Francis Kiss.

Meghan O’Shea at just 20 years of age has starred in some of the biggest musicals to hit Australian shores including Oklahoma, 42nd Street, Monteen Parade, Rent, Loving Repeating, The Laramie Project, Tales of Ovid, Jane Eyre, Cats, The Sound of Music, Romeo and Juliet and Les Miserables. O’Shea is a classically trained ballet dancer who also performs tap, jazz, contemporary and hip-hop and is a mezzo soprano. She was raised and schooled in Brisbane, is looking forward to the premiere season being performed in her home city, and hasn’t had her heart broken too much ….. yet.

*Before creating Dumped! Emma Powell was flashing her boobs to some 50,000 Brisbanites in the laugh-out-loud comedy show that had women cheering on their feet and men gasping in amazement. Busting Out! began in Brisbane as a four week run in late 2008. The art of mammary manipulation quickly gained momentum and the season was extended to 16 wonderful weeks. No other Australian show in recent memory had achieved such a run for its inaugural season. Dumped! is tipped to follow suit. Emma is also well known for her roles in hit musicals such as Mamma Mia!, Fiddler on the Roof and Les Misérables.
