THE MOFFS (album launch) with The Sand Pebbles
Sat 20 September 2008
Doors 8.30
While their contemporaries took inspiration from US garage rock of the 60s and 70s, The Moffs were influenced by the UK’s mod, psychedelic and prog-rock scenes of the same time. Release after release topped the Australian independent charts and drew blubbering praise from European press. Four years after their stunning 1985 debut ‘Another Day in the Sun’, The Moffs were no more. In 2008, they are set to reform in support of a new 2CD set chronicling The Moffs story in full, called Sunstroke - The Collection. Featuring founding members Tom Kazas and Smiley Byrnes, alongside drummer Andrew Byrnes and an array of special musical guests, don’t miss The Moffs in this very special reunion show.

GINJA ROE (album launch) with Paul William Ray Band - afternoon show
Sun 5 October 2008
Doors 3.30
Melbourne based folk ensemble Ginja Roe, led by singer-songwriter Meg Doherty and Pam Wouters, are excited to announce the launch of their second album ‘Polished’, a journey of consciousness, combining 14 songs of love, loss and bold lyrical reprisal. Blending original folk, alt-country and pop, with their two Maton guitars, raw Australian talent, and unyielding harmonies, Ginja Roe’s live performances always leave a lasting impression. “One thing that instantly strikes the observer at a Ginja Roe gig is the big bold sound they generate with guitar and drum. There’s nothing subdued about these girls. Almost immediately after that first impression, you are struck by the vocals. They each have lovely distinctive voices which individually sound beautiful, but when joined in harmony, are truly something special” (Anne Sydenham) ‘Polished’ is out now.

CLUE TO KALO (album launch) with Qua and Institute Polaire
Thu 9 October 2008
Doors 8.00
Satisfyingly schizophrenic, Clue To Kalo’s third full-length release ‘Lily Perdida’ is ten voices in one, all of them a different branch off the same electric folk tree. Amidst jangly guitar, mod ribbons of flute, and the voices of mastermind Mark Mitchell and duet partner Ellen Carey, ten musical perspectives on fictional character ‘Lily Perdida’ emerge, each song from the point of view of a different person in her life. A post-modern frolic of keyboards, harpsichords and laptops, ‘Lily Perdida’ is a gorgeous and sonically sprawling commentary on the nature of history and identity. Witness this show where the music ebbs and flows with the changing characters but never strays from the utterly satisfying sound we have come to expect from Clue To Kalo.

JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN (USA) with Adrian Deutsch (ex Red Riders) - SOLD OUT!
Fri 10 October 2008
Doors 8.30
Joan Wasser’s musical career, even in a nutshell, can send you weak at the knees. Her five-string violin-cum-viola provided the rhythmic thrust alongside the guitars in The Dambuilders. Those Bastard Souls and Black Beetle followed, as well as more subtle and quiet stints with Antony’s Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright, before Joan decided to go it alone. Some influences pervade, but this is all together different. It’s music that shimmers, torch-songlike, feeling adjacent to jazz while being deeply soulful. Album ‘To Survive’ is out now.

DIESEL
Fri 28 November 2008
Doors 8.30
To coincide with the release of Diesel’s brand new album ‘Days Like These’, the master guitarist is set to embark on a comprehensive album tour with his band. The powerhouse trio will showcase their new material in a fresh and exciting new live format - divided into three segments, the two hour non-stop set will be unlike anything Diesel and his band have done before. The show will open with tracks from the new album, followed by an interactive segment where the audience formulates the set list, and ending with the band blasting through the rich Diesel catalogue - the very same material that won him a string of awards and accolades over the past twenty years. Already being lauded for the welcome return to his rock ‘n’ blues roots, ‘Days Like These’ has been described in three words: “Simple. Classic. Strong.” (Herald-Sun).

MAN MAN (USA) with special guest
Thu 11 December 2008
Doors 8.30
From the wilds of Philadelphia, please enter Man Man. Five men. Many instruments. Lots of face paint. They bring their exuberant live show to town for the very first time, performing in support of their latest release ‘Rabbit Habbits’. With comparisons to the usual avant-garde forefathers - Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits - Man Man act as torchbearers of the unusual, the spontaneous and the plainly funny. The famously riotous Man Man live show centres on Honus Honus’ honkytonk style piano, accompanied by various instruments including a clavinet, microKORG, sousaphone, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, flute, drum set, euphonium, bass, guitar, xylophone, marimba, melodica and various percussive instruments, pots and pans, toy noise makers and horns. Viking vaudeville! Manic gypsy jazz! However you describe them, come to the East and experience the uproar.

ADAM GREEN (USA) with special guest
Sun 14 December 2008
Doors 8.00
Adam Green will be leaving his New York home to promote his fifth solo album, ‘Sixes & Sevens’. Adam’s irreverent wit and pop sensibilities were established as a teenager with his first band, the much loved anti-folk heroes Moldy Peaches. Formed with his partner-in-crime Kimya Dawson, the band captivated critics and won fans around the world. The Peaches experienced a resurgence this year after featuring on the soundtrack of hit indie film, Juno, including the anti-love song duet, ‘Anyone Else But You’. Adam went on to experience success as a solo artist, a career that is now five albums deep. Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) says of Adam: “It always amazes me how he can express such deep meaning with such twisted humor. Adam is eccentric and down-to-earth, with new found technical proficiency over a wider spectrum of styles. I love it.”
