Sat 29 Mar 2008

Doors 8.30

The Kings of Northern Hyperblast, Kataklysm, wear the crown once more with pride. Their latest release ‘In The Arms Of Devastation’ is a monster album that strongly reaffirms the band’s pole position in the world of extreme metal, and shows the band at its best after a long journey of evolution since forming in 1991, through the folds of all things brutal, technical, extreme and, most of all, heavy. With the incredible international success of this, their eighth album, Kataklysm is at the top of its game and selling more albums than ever. Witness why Kataklysm is the number one Canadian metal export in the world… and after 15 years they are still kings!

FITZROY XPRESS (WA) with Lee Morgan

Wed 2 Apr 2008

Doors 8.00

Fitzroy Xpress, Indigenous Australia’s favourite country rockers, bring their infectious mix of country rock to Victoria for the first time. Their album ‘Home Sweet Home’ won the Deadly Award for Album of the Year in 2005. They have toured extensively throughout WA and the top end – from remote tin sheds to headlining major venues coast to coast. Their music reflects Aboriginal Australia with songs about life in a small outback town and about bullocks, bushtucker, girls, love, rodeos, dreaming and being aboriginal. The Walmatjarri, Wangkatjunka, Gooniyan, and Bunuba people call Fitzroy Crossing home. Accompanying the wide-open spaces, clear blue skies, and rugged dreamtime beauty is a wonderful feeling of family and being part of something special.

Deadpanning, salubrious songs of misanthropic romance, indie shock-tigers Aleks & The Ramps zig zag lightning fast between disparate constellation points of delicate banjo melodies, death-metal worthy speed smash-ups, pretty glockenspiels and five part vocal harmonies. Their album ‘Pisces vs Aquarius’ is out now. Joining the band in this double headline will be Sydney’s psych poppers Richard In Your Mind, who endeavour to explore a wide expanse of sonic possibilities, with an engaging confetti exploding live show which feature tracks from debut release ‘The Future Prehistoric’.

Fri 4 Apr 2008

Doors 8.30

Before heading overseas to headline festivals in the UK and Canada, the old school electro subversives Snog will launch EP ‘City’, featuring four brand new tracks and a handful of striking remixes by such luminaries as Curse Ov Dialect, Berlin ambient beat-meister Hecq and MZO. This caravan of decadence and anarchy will stop at the East for their only Melbourne show for 2008 with support provided by the torrid synth kitsch of Casionova, electro divas I Forget and dancefloor dominatrix DJ Andrew Till. See what the fuss is about as Snog croon their way over a bunch of synthesizers and twanging guitars with a singer that makes Tom Waits sound like Dame Nellie Melba.

KATE MILLER-HEIDKE (QLD) with special guest

Thu 15 May 2008

Doors 8.30

Nearly a year since the release of her ARIA Nominated debut album ‘Little Eve’, Kate Miller-Heidke is one of the most talked about performers in Australia. Heralded as one of the ultimate acts to catch live, rarely has an artist left fans and reviewers alike so consistently awestruck. Kate is currently selling out national tours, and supporting the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Evermore, as well as being a major festival drawcard (East Coast Blues and Roots, Apollo Bay, Port Fairy, Woodford). “Miller-Heidke’s punishing vocal prowess is the impetus of the gutsiest show in Australian music at the moment. There is nothing contrived here ; just a cathartic release of punk opera - stunning, fine and porcelain-fragile meets pummeling, bruising rock & roll.” Adelaide Fringe Festival
