SARA STORER (NSW) with special guest
Sun 4 May 2008
Sara Storer first came to prominence as a singer/songwriter who was clearly following her heart, and to all who heard her, there was little doubt that here was a unique talent. It was music proudly of this country but rooted firmly in the present. Her fourth album, ‘Silver Skies’ is filled with tales of lives and loves of those on the land but there is a much broader musical palette that shows her to be a contemporary of Missy Higgins and The Waifs as much as her country comrades. Since the release of ‘Silver Skies’, Sara has toured with The Waifs, Suzanne Vega, Paul, Kelly and Missy Higgins.

GHOSTWOOD (NSW) with YVES KLEIN BLUE and special guest
Sat 3 May 2008
On a crisp winter’s morning in 2006 the mystical spirit that is Ghostwood was born, in a high school rec room somewhere in Sydney. After playing shows with the likes of The Jesus & Mary Chain, Klaxons, The Valentinos, Howling Bells and Van She, a 5 track self-titled EP was created. The EP takes in 5 very distinct tones, from Red Version’s unresolved optimism, Blue Version’s ominous sparseness, Ghost’s beautifully sweeping simplicity, Run’s angst to Pencils’ relief and longing, the Ghostwood EP recalls moments here and there of My Bloody Valentine, early U2, Factory Records and grunge and alludes to an epic grandeur not far away.

Thu 17 Apr 2008
Doors 8.00
The Cruel Sea, one of Australia’s greatest bands, was originally founded as an instrumental act by guitarist and main songwriter Dan Rumour with drummer Jim Elliott. Reunited, the pair have formed a new band, joined by Michael Turner and Nick Larkins from Wild Pumpkins At Midnight. Dan Rumour & The Drift are a quartet of versatile and experienced musicians whose feel is very much the sound of The Cruel Sea’s early surf-influenced instrumentals. Their self-titled first studio album was released in October, and features new songs, with fresh takes on a couple of classic Cruel Sea tracks, and captures a warm, tropical, surf feel, sure to be played all summer and beyond.

Fri 18 Apr 2008
Doors 8.30
Grey Daturas are an improvising, instrumental trio with no songs or melodies; they don’t rehearse; yet maintain a touring ethos tomatch that of early hardcore pioneers. Drawing sonic influence from free jazz, avant garde, psychedelic rock, punk, metal, industrial and noise, Grey Daturas’ blend of harsh and dark psychedelia is unmistakably their own. The launch is for anticipated third album, ‘Return to Disruption’.

LAURA JEAN WITH THE EDEN LAND BAND and The Orbweavers
Thu 8 May 2008
Doors 8.00
Sydney-born, Melbourne-based songwriter Laura Jean first came to national attention in 2006 with the release of her debut album ‘Our Swan Song’. Lush and pastoral, adorned with strings, woodwind and Laura’s beautiful modal harmonies, Our Swan Song was a critical and popular favourite, gaining Triple J high rotation and introducing Laura Jean as a powerful, exotic new voice in Australian music. After this kind of reception, Laura Jean felt confident enough to aim for the stars on her next album. An unashamed concept record, ‘Eden Land’ explores ideas of self-discovery, sexual awakening and loss of innocence through a suite of nine interconnected songs.
