“The Power of Song” - Weekly Monday 3rd September to Monday 15th October with Carmel Charlton
Have you ever wanted to write a song? Is there something that you feel strongly about? The power of a great song touches the heart and has the ability to move us in a way that words alone cannot do. Try your hand at lyric writing, melody, rhythm and hooks. Some of the topics include “Weaving a melody around the chords”, “Making lyrics fit the tune” and “Finding a title. If you play an instrument bring it along. Suitable for everyone from 15 upwards.

Carmel’s compositions are used extensively in schools to promote the value of water. The song “My Nullarbor Home” co-written with poet Jill Campbell is included on the Australia All Over CD “Macca’s Sunday Best”. Her video clip of “Horses Coming Home” featured on the ABC on Anzac Day. She recently wrote the music and produced the CD “Dreaming Still” with lyrics by writer, poet and FAWWA member Gwen Atkinson. As well as performing, Carmel teaches guitar, piano, voice and also transcribes music notation. Carmel runs Jackadder’s Music Club” in Perth that features acoustic folk and blues.
