DARK FUNERAL (Sweden) - On sale Thursday 28 June
Saturday 24 November 2012 8:30pm
Swedish black metal outfit Dark Funeral return to Australia once again to terrorise our stages with “vast walls of sound” and their “classic black metal, with clouds of red dry ice and an ominous electronic drone announcing the songs” (Metal Hammer). Forming in 1993 in Sweden, Dark Funeral are a force to be reckoned with due to their in-your-face, satanic, dark metal music known across the land as “one of the leading black metal bands” (All Music). Dark Funeral’s stage show is unlike any other. In addition to their intense musical ferocity, their performances are adorned with all the stagecraft the black metal genre can deliver; corpse paint, weapons, spikes and fire breathing. It’s a spectacle you can only comprehend live and in the flesh. Featuring a new unholy line-up of committed conspirators, Dark Funeral bring their “magnificently brutal” Nordic black metal blizzard back to Australia to stake their claim amongst the premier elite of the black metal world. Headlining this year’s ‘High Voltage Festival’, Macabre blends elements of true crime, math rock, nursery rhymes, thrash, folk melodies, death metal, jazz fusion, black metal and more into an energetic, catchy and unmistakable amalgam. The all-too-true tales of man’s inhumanity to man are delivered with knife-edge precision, interspersed with Corporate Death’s patented (back when he was a toddler) screech. SIMONE FELICE (USA) and JOSH RITTER (USA) - SELLING FAST!
Wednesday 11 July 2012 7:30pm
Hot on the heels of his latest release, Simone Felice will be accompanied by his band of merry music makers when he brings his incomparable music and talent to our shores for this show. He’ll be joined by fellow countryman Josh Ritter on only his second ever visit to Australia, making this an unforgettable musical evening of enlightenment and discovery. BARRY ADAMSON (UK) - SHOW MOVED FROM WED 23 MAY - TICKETS STILL VALID
Tuesday 11 September 2012 8:00pm
Born in Manchester in 1958, and writing his first song at the age of 10, Barry Adamson was known to skip school and wait at home for the postman to deliver the latest Alice Cooper import from America. Home life was coated with the rhythms of motown and jazz, while Roxy Music and David Bowie shaped his teenage years. Recording five albums with Howard Devoto’s Magazine, he moved to London in the ‘80s, working with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds across three albums. Over time he began making a series of sketches and tunes that would become the trace elements of his erotic, paranoid style; densely portrayed in his debut solo album, ‘Moss Side Story’. Several albums later and Adamson is now set to release another, ‘I Will Set You Free’, featuring the song ‘Turnaround’, in 2012. Now free of the shackles of expectation, prepare to take a ride aboard one of the year’s finest releases. http://youtu.be/j80rPOybSms

EARTH (USA) - SELLING FAST!
Sunday 16 September 2012 7:30pm
Heathen Skulls is proud to present Seattle drone doom outfit Earth in their very first performances on our shores this September. Earth formed in 1990 and led by guitarist Dylan Carlson. Mostly instrumental, their early work grew out of the Seattle area grunge scene and is recognised as pioneering the genre of drone doom – an experimental offshoot of doom metal, characterised by droning, minimalist, lengthy and repetitive structures. Their early work could be seen as a variation of the experimental doom-influenced metal of The Melvins but they now feature a markedly different sound. Released earlier this year, ‘Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II’ is a completely unanticipated direction for Earth. They are heartfelt, haunting and deliver slow moving music that stretches into other worlds. http://vimeo.com/13217977

DEFEATER (USA) and BLACKLISTED (USA) - On sale Friday 29 June
Thursday 27 September 2012 7:30pm
Defeater is a band recognised not only for their musical talent but also for their social awareness and environmental activism in a musical landscape plagued with insincerity and complacency. Joining Defeater will be hardcore punk and experimental rock group Blacklisted. Releasing their debut EP in 2003, they’ve gone on to release numerous further EPs and albums with the most recent being ‘No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me’, featuring a stylistic turn to an early ‘90s grunge sound and abandoning most of the speed, favouring heavy, repetitive grooves. RUSSIAN CIRCLES (USA) with EAGLE TWIN (USA)
Friday 28 September 2012 8:30pm
After unleashing their monumental sounds to packed houses across the country last year, experimental metal outfit Russian Circles are back on our shores this September and are bringing Utah duo Eagle Twin along for the ride. Hailing from the windy city of Chicago, Russian Circles have been making their mark on the international underground since 2004. Starting with their self-titled, self-released debut EP, Russian Circles have gone onto critical acclaim by recording numerous singles and split releases, not to mention three full length albums. Although Eagle Twin is a new entity, its helmsman Gentry Densley is no stranger to innovative, heavy music. Densley was the musical visionary and leader of the legendary jazz, prog, rock, metal, hardcore group Iceburn from 1991-2001. In order to disseminate his majestic and mountainous riffs in the present day, he enlisted massively behemoth skinsman Tyler Smith, and the result is doom/blues/roots/rock backing a new mythology of epic, Old Testament proportions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2-hJtJrXxc

The warm, mellifluous voice of Paul Heaton often masks the jagged satirical content of his lyrics, and his work with the Housemartins and the Beautiful South has had countless listeners obliviously humming along to his biting wit. Paul shifted his focus to a solo career in 2007 (although his first solo release was in 2001 under the pseudonym Biscuit Boy) releasing ‘The Cross Eyed Rambler’ in 2008 and ‘Acid Country’ in 2010, and with‘Paul Heaton Presents… The 8th’ for release as an album and DVD in July 2012.
Watch the uncut video for ‘My Funeral’ here. http://youtu.be/TEVodXzNmPM
