Guitar-a-thon Guiness WorldRecord Attempt - Hard Rock Cafe
The Hard Rock CafĂ© Melbourne is celebrating its 10th Birthday in October by hosting a charity event to raise money for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre - Kids Music Therapy Program. Our aim is to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for a “guitar-a-thon” which is the largest assembly of guitarists playing one particular song. We aim to have 2000 people, which will smash the existing record of 1322 set in Vancouver, Canada in 1994!
The event is being held on Saturday October 29th at 10.30am at the Museum Plaza at Melbourne Royal Exhibition buildings in Carlton. This event is a fundraiser and all money raised from the $5 entry fee will be donated in full to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. We hope to raise $10, 000, for the kids, so we need all guitarists - young and old, amateur and professional to get involved! Every guitarist who participates goes into the draw for some great prizes (including brand new guitar amps) plus other giveaways. The plan is to play Deep Purple’s classic - ‘Smoke on the Water” and the actual performance time will be approx. 5 - 10 minutes long. All entrants need to do is bring their guitar, register and be ready to play!
Registration will commence from 9am all entrants must register on the day and receive an official registration certificate. All forms of guitars are welcome in the attempt. Each performer will be required to play for five minutes and acoustically; no amps will be able to be used in this performance “Smoke on the Water.
Channel 7 is to film the “Guitar-a-thon” for its second series of Guinness World Records television program. Event sponsors include Billy Hyde’s, Gold FM, Pepsi, CD Online and Penfold Buscombe.
This is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to play alongside some of Australia’s greatest guitarists and set a new world record at the same time!
